Happy Day Cafe is a Chinese Restaurant, located on Kingsway Vancouver. Since the location nearby the Joyce Skytrain station and Bus stops, this place is always busy.
Wednesday, My boyfriend and I went out for dinner on Kingsway. Many restaurants were unfortunately closed on Wednesday, so we ended up going to Happy Day Cafe.
It was our first having dinner Happy Day Cafe. Since it’s early, we didn’t wait and get into the restaurant right away. Inside the restaurant is nice, bright, modern and spacious. There are booths, two-person dining tables, counter seating, and large round tables for bigger groups. The interior also features exposed brick walls and small potted plants as accents. It’s a very large Hong Kong Style restaurant. After we sat down, the server brought the menu and drink to us. This place has more than one menu. Each menu displays a different food item. As discussed, we decided to order Sweet Sour Pork Combo ( including rice, soup and dessert) and rice noodle to share.

Sweet Sour Pork $16.90. A Chinese stir-fry dish made with juicy pieces of pork tenderloin, bell peppers, onion, and pineapple. Battered pork gets fried until crispy then tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce. The sweet and sour pork from Happy Day Cafe was in the large portion and tasted OK, but it was not very authentic.
The free soup was great. Chinese Winter Melon Soup. It is one of my all time favourite soups. I’ve eaten soups from literally dozens of countries yet this remains one of the best. This popular soup features the mild sweet taste of winter melon and is often served in Chinese households and at Chinese banquets. I was so happy this soup free.
Free dessert included in the combo. Not my type of dessert. The taste was OK.
ish soup noodle combo is $9.95. It including Soup based + 2 Topping + Noodles + Hot/Cold Drink. It’s the same ordering style like Bubble Waffle. It was in large portion and soup was very delicious. I love it so much.
In summary, the food in Happy Day Cafe was good. Large Portion. The Taste was OK. Nothing so exciting about this dine out. If you want to try this place out, you...
Read moreQuality is only a 55% score..dinner dishes are very very small in quantity.
There is 3 of us..yet the table is only 1.5' x 1.5' big....very uncomfortable indeed..too sqeezy!! Big enough for 1 single person dinning
When they are busy...lots people standing at front door to watch you eat. Not a cosy atmosphere at all... Not good for digestion!!
This perhaps is typical nowadays Hong Kong style living ...yet happening in Vancouver
Open at 6.30 am. 5 variety breakfast to choose from...egg, bacon, to congee $8-$10 deal
Lunch has 6 variety around $10-$12
FOR SUPPER these following are "BARGAINS".. Try their meal deals A )plan ...they had economic meals like for 3 person..Peking duck...3 courses
B) plan..Cod fish meal ( about$43 for 2-3 people.) Includes 3 courses as well..
Otherwise, ....
it can be rather expensive eatery if you order INDIVIDUAL dishes supper... example: we order half free run chicken..( no chicken breast at all)..it's $17.80+ tax, tips,= $20..for 10 pc. Bone/skin chicken.... when the plate arrived.. about 10 flat bony pieces. Never seen such a small young chicken served
Service is poor, not enough staff..!! Food is very oily, & salty. Waitress come to removed all empty dishes. Not allowing us A little after dinner time to chit chat
Long waiting time at front door..10 people easy, with no lounge, ...you will be waiting & watching other customers eat...
I will not returned...as it's a very rushed, . unenjoyable,.. no privacy meal...poor standard in food...
Read moreA very busy and typical HK-style cafe. Been here in the past and they do have some good dishes (as well as some that aren't).
Dropped by for breakfast one day and it was hopping with all the tables full up.
They offer a variety of dishes including the unbelievably good pineapple bun BLT. Amazingly crispy bacon and a good overall BLT (although a bit heavy-handed with the mayo).
Congee was ok. But the steamed beef rice roll was a bit too basic for my liking.
Update: Been coming here more recently because their breakfast menu is pretty good and food turns out quite well.
Ordered their protein choice combo (which lets you pick the kind of meat, eggs, toast) and added the noodle soup for a couple of bucks. Very good value. The pan-fried chicken steak was juicy and meaty and I got it with ham, eggs, and French toast. The beef satay in noodle soup was tender too. Quite a bit of food. The Chinese donut rice rolls were ok too.
Update: December 2024 - We usually visit Happy Day for their breakfast offerings but visited recently for some HK cafe eats. Ordered the baked pork chop and seafood on rice ($19.95), curry beef brisket on rice ($19.95), and deep fried wontons ($11.95). I didn't find there was much meat or sauce in the curry although it tasted fine. I think their breakfast offerings are better choices.
UPDATE - August 2025: Finally stopped by for dinner and had BC Crab Combo which is a pretty good deal at $79.88 and includes 2 other dishes of your choice. We had the crab prepared in ginger and green onion sauce and added the Happy Day crispy chicken and fried gai lan. The combo includes dessert and very good...
