new Fish Of the Boat? I heard about this place from my friends quite a bit about their specialty dishes and read about the mixed reviews. Finally got a chance to give it a try with a group of good friends. The restaurant is located on Marine Drive, about a block from Fraser Street; decent amount of parking spaces available, inside has a causal family style setting with private rooms. Here were the chef’s specialty and customized dishes ordered; 1. Premium shark’s fin soup with fresh dungeoness crab meats, fish maw and abalone soup (customized individual bowls per guest). Premium quality and taste overall; the shark’s fins were thick, fish maw were smooth, crab meat were fresh and generous amount and the abalone added a unique blend of flavour. I know some of your are against sharks fin soup ( Facepalm) 2. Poached live geoduck slices with chefs sauce and deep fried inner body on top of crab meat lettuce salad (a requested dish). Beautiful fresh taste especially when accompanied by the crab meat and lettuce salad. The deep fried inner body was rich and tasty. 3. Deep fried squabs. Nice little crisp on the skin, well marinated, and a nice fresh taste to the meat. When well with the wines or maybe I was half drunk already. 4. Chef’s special steamed free range chicken and shredded meat with house made pickled vegetables and deep fried tofu skin. I find this dish pretty generic, half steamed chicken and half mushu style chicken. 5. Giant scallops & squids stir fried with mushrooms and mixed vegetables. Nice size scallops with a light refreshing taste by the vegetables. But I find it a pretty common dish. 6. Sweet and sour pork with fresh pineapple. The sauce was tasty, the texture was nice but I find the fresh pineapple was a bit too sour and the pork had the strong gamey pork taste. 7. Steamed live big eye red snapper. I love fishes but not a big fan of red snappers, maybe because hard to find a live one to cook. Certainly tasted a lot better when a fresh live one is cooked in terms of taste and meat texture. 8. Dry stir fried lobster and crab with sticky rice plus flaming sticky fried rice (chef’s specialty dish) Very tasty dish and the flaming sticky fried rice was a flavourful with a nice twist. Glad the lobster and crab meat weren’t overcooked. 9. Baked mango tapioca pudding with red bean sauce. 10. Sweet potato and toro soup with condensed milk. Very popular southern China dessert soup. Overall, it’s good to finally give this place a try. It’s more of a casual family dining environment rather than considered a mid or high end restaurant. But glad we dine at the private VIP room to avoid all the noises and crowd. Some of the food were great and a couple of dishes were questionable, but nevertheless, they do use quality ingredients. The service was very engaging and attentive with the lady boss checking up on each dish that was being served. Maybe the price tag for this dinner was pretty hefty lol Regardless, decent food with great friends and a lot of good drinks make any occasion a happy and memorable one. For its food and price tag, I would say a 3 star is fair, anything higher would be an exaggeration. One day I might give this new FOB another try. Note: all the so called foodies or celebrity foodies, have a little standard and integrity, be honest to your audience.

Food was about average for a Cantonese seafood restaurant but the prices were quite a bit higher than the standard. For the quality of food itself it’s actually not bad but it’s about the full dining experience and to be honest I felt like my table received significantly worse service than other tables. Most likely based on the dishes we ordered. I mean our food was by no means “cheap” but we did not purchase any of those recommendations the server told us about that costs way more money. We even over heard one of the servers ( or owner ) saying to another worker that they were relieved we were finally leaving. Probably because we were not spending “that much” for dinner…. And could finally fill our table with other people. No I will never set foot in this restaurant again or any future establishments the owner opens in the future. By no means is this review meant to defame the restaurant, maybe they were just feeling too stressed from the covid restrictions and really needed the money. 🤷‍♂️ but to be treated based on how much we are willing to spend on a meal simply is a first… oh and y’all wondering how much the meal cost, it was a little over $300 with 12% tips ( why did I tip? Because it’s not the servers faults they give that kind of service, more likely how the owner teaches the servers how to serve higher value customers)

Our first time trying New Fishport Seafood Bistro was actually take out last year but we finally managed to visit in person a few weeks ago. It's located in a rather non-descript mini mall on Marine. The interior isn't huge and they sat us at one of the few small tables in the restaurant. We ordered the Mixed Vegetables, Mui Choy Kau Yuk, House Special Fried Rice, and we wanted to order a crab dish. They tried to convince us that we ordered too much... As it turns out, they mistakenly gave us the wrong crab dish. We ordered a simple ginger and green onion crab but they wound up giving us their special Fire Crab with Sticky Rice. The reason why they call it that is because they pour some liquid on the sticky rice and set it on fire tableside. While it wasn't what we ordered, it turned out pretty good with a spicy garlic soy flavour. Service was pretty good and food was tasty. Ended the meal with a taro tapioca dessert.

Dear Fishport Management,

I recently dined at your restaurant on Thursday, December 12, 2024, and I wanted to share feedback about my experience. As someone who has enjoyed dining at your establishment a few times in the past, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, my recent visit left me disappointed due to a series of incidents that felt inconsiderate and unprofessional.

8:30 PM: We walked in and were promptly seated. We asked if the restaurant was still open, and your staff confirmed that it was, until 10:00 PM. 8:40 PM: We placed our order. 9:00 PM: The food began to arrive, dish by dish—squab, vegetables, and then, much later, the steamed black cod with black bean sauce. A last call was announced, which was fine as we had already ordered enough food. 9:15 PM: While we were still eating, a complimentary dessert unexpectedly arrived at our table. Although thoughtful, it seemed premature as we were far from finishing our meal. A lady walked-in and asked to order honey-garlic spare ribs to go and was rudely told by the male server that the restaurant is closed. The lady looked at her phone and said, "It's only 9:15 PM and it says here you close at 10 PM." Waiter said, "We close!" 9:20 PM: The bill was presented to my side without warning, with staff stating they wanted to close the cash register. There was no proper explanation or apology, which left us feeling rushed and unwelcome.

I understand that closing procedures are necessary, but the way it was handled felt dismissive. Closing time was clearly stated as 10:00 PM, and yet we were made to feel uncomfortable and hurried well before then. This not only disrupted our meal but also diminished what should have been an enjoyable experience at your highly recommended restaurant.

As a returning customer, I have come to expect a higher level of service from your establishment. Hospitality goes beyond serving great food—it’s about making guests feel valued and respected. I hope you will take this feedback constructively and address these issues to ensure a better experience for your patrons in the future. How many stars do you think you deserve from...
