Review of Shota Sushi & Grill
When you first step into Shota Sushi & Grill, the elegant and inviting decor immediately catches your eye. The restaurant has a modern yet traditional Japanese aesthetic, featuring tasteful decorations that contribute to a serene dining atmosphere. One of the standout elements of the decor is the prominently displayed board showcasing today's specials. This thoughtful touch not only highlights the restaurant's offerings but also adds a dynamic and personalized aspect to the dining experience.
The spaciousness of Shota Sushi & Grill is another notable feature. Unlike many other restaurants that can feel cramped, this establishment offers plenty of room between tables, ensuring a comfortable dining environment. The cleanliness and brightness of the space further enhance the overall ambiance, making it an ideal spot for both casual lunches and special dinners.
From the moment you walk in, the staff at Shota Sushi & Grill make you feel welcome with their warm greetings. Their friendliness and attentiveness are evident throughout your visit. The sushi masters, in particular, are a joy to watch as they meticulously craft each dish with precision and passion. Their hard work and dedication to their craft are clear, and they are always willing to provide recommendations and ideas when ordering, which adds a personalized touch to your meal.
One of the highlights of the menu is the bento box, which offers a variety of delicious items at a reasonable price. The sushi rolls are both creative and delectable, each one presenting a unique combination of flavors and textures. The sashimi is exceptionally fresh, a testament to the quality and care put into sourcing ingredients. Among the standout dishes is the shrimp tempura, which is perfectly crispy and bursting with flavor.
In addition to the dining area, the washrooms at Shota Sushi & Grill are noteworthy for their cleanliness and spaciousness. They are well-maintained, with all necessary supplies neatly organized, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to providing a top-notch experience in every aspect.
Overall, Shota Sushi & Grill offers an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. With its beautiful decor, welcoming staff, and delicious food, it's a place that invites you to return time and time again. I will definitely be back for more delightful meals and...
Read moreWe are done with Shota. I went for dinner last night, with my wife, at about 9:30. We were the last table to be seated, though there were still many tables with people eating. We ordered quickly at their request: Scallop magma roll, veggie yaki soba, agedashi tofu, saba nigiri, mackerel teppanyaki. I asked for a water, the waiter brought one for me and not my wife. The food was just ok this time. The saba nigiri, usually my favrorite, had a long, fishy aftertaste. The mackerel teppanyaki was a ridiculous rubbery filet on a bed of ubiquitous clamshell salad greens. There were no cuts in it to make it easier to serve... and it was presented with an extra pair of chopsticks. We clawed it apart together with our chopsticks, and I thought it was very dry. Similarly, the yaki soba, which I liked, was simply presented with a fork. No extra side dishes, so we had to eat it off our sushi plates. Wrangling it from the main dish to our plates with only a fork was messy and awkward. The second last table left just as we were finishing our meal. As we sat waiting at an uncleared table, they turned off the music. Wife began to make derisive comments to me which I think they overheard, so they turned it back on. Eventually a server said (still without clearing our table) "are you all set?" We got up to pay. Wife walked out without a thank you or goodbye while I paid. We won't be...
Read moreI have been to this Japanese restaurant for lunch and dinner. My first experience, for their lunchbox, was good. Compared to some other Japanese restaurants on the W41 Avenue, the quality for the lunch sets were fine and you can feel satisfied with the quantity as well. The restaurant is not owned and operated by Japanese but the ambient is nice and spacious.
For the second time I visited for dinner a week ago, it was unfortunately a bit disappointing, especially the Oyakodon. I had over 50 times of Oyakodon in the past and I am sure they didn’t cook it right. Even it didn’t look similar to the normal Oyakodon. The “Oyakodon” they cooked was like fried eggs with chicken fillets. If you look at the picture I took and compare to the Google search results on Oyakodon, you will understand what I mean. This got two stars deducted.
For the salmon soup with tofu and veggies, it was not authentic as well. I felt that they just put all the ingredients and cooked in the chicken broth together. Another star deducted.
I looked at the other tables. Sashimi boat and tempura looked fine. If you go there for dinner I would recommend you not to order the rice bowls (don) and the soup.
Their service was ok. I sincerely hope the owner and chef could take it seriously on those dishes I mentioned and I will be happy to see if they can...
