My bestie and I were long overdue for a catch up, so we hit up the Cascade Room on Tuesday night. We had such a lovely time.
Service - truly, the service was a huge part of the 5 stars I am giving the Cascade room. Our server was bright and bubbly with a hint of sarcasm which absolutely made our night. She was spot on with her suggestions (fish and chips special and the spiced sangria). She absolutely knew how much to be at our table and when to let us just chat away. She was there whenever we needed her and was an absolute delight to chat with. In this day where good staff are hard to come by, The Cascade Room is obviously doing something right to have such great people working with them. Thank you!
Food - We split the fish and chips special which had two HUGE pieces of cod, plentiful fries, yummy house made coleslaw and OMG the tartar sauce, which I have decided I would like to purchase a gallon of and have it with everything I eat! Our server had an excellent way of describing the food, which guided us in making wonderful choices. We ordered the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was a HUGE portion so we were glad we split it. Warm, gently spiced cake, warm toffee sauce and vanilla gelato on top. So, so, so, delicious. The festive season has officially started!
Ambiance - the restaurant was warmly lit with a crackling fire showing on their TV over the bar. Each table had a candle that just added that little special sparkly something. We were sitting at a high boy which I generally don't like, but these had decent seats with high backs so my voluptuous self felt comfortable the whole time.
Happy hour - all of our drinks were happy hour specials (spiced Sangria, fuzzy peach bourbon cocktail and a mulled wine). Perfectly balanced, not overly sweet and delicious. We didn't try any of the happy hour food (as the fish and chips had beckoned) but we will definitely be back as it looked delicious.
Thank you to everyone at the Cascade Room who turned an average Tuesday night into a fill-my-cup kind of event. We will most...
Read moreHad a really nice dinner here with my partner in the context of the Vancouver Dine Out Festival and had the set menu. Starters where good, especially for the price, but nothing special; a good Mushroom Vellouté and a Salmon Platter served cold with some cheese, veggies and chips. Main Course we had a genuinely fabtastic Squash Risotto and a pretty good Salmon with a side salad and a very interesting chilli sauce. The risotto was the highlight of the dinner and definetly worth the price alone. Salmon was not my cup of tea but very interesting. Maintaining the same trajectory desserts where composed of a super interesting and excellently made Earl Gray Crème Brûllée and an unispired Chocolate Mousse (the Chocolate was good but the meringue underneath was rather lacking). Notable the selection of cocktails and mocktails, both relatively extensive and interesting as well as a solid selection of wine pairings. The service was good but very busy (though that might be simply a result of the Dine Out Festival) and while the staff was incredibly kind and accomodating to our needs (and we noticed how well they operated with other diners too) the cramped space and clearly ovewhelmed staff made the roll out of dishes (and especially drinks) relatively slow. Finally the athmosphere was great but simply not for us in particular. Its a very loud space both visually and acoustically and quite tightly packed but between the good looking bar, nice boots and puns adorning the bathrooms and backrooms (which we noticed at the end of our meal and where quite funny) it more than makes up for it with charm. All in all an nice evening and an experience worth having even though we where not the exact target audience. Good food, interesting vibes and careful if busy service, underpriced for what they have to offer, but could do with a couple rounds of...
Read moreWent for the Sunday roast we are expats from Ireland and we were craving a real roast hard to find in Vancouver. This was our first time here. A cold and missable evening in Vancouver we were delighted to enter the cosy and warm cascade room. Lighting was perfect, music just right (good jazz!) not loud and for once in Vancouver no NFL on 20 tv screens! Just a toasty image of a fireplace that really gives that cozy feeling. The happy hour menu was very appealing so we tried the chickpea fritters and hot olives both excellent real chef food ( no greasy chicken wings here) both dishes we delicious and presented thoughtfully a great start. We ordered a bottle of merlot which was excellent one of the best we have had in BC just right. Now for the mains the roast beef with all the trimmings / delicious selection of veg seasonal herlium carrots / baby turnip / chard / baby Potatos with a proper homemade Yorkshire pudding all for 19 dollars! You can tell all the ingredients are excellent quality and fresh the veg was perfectly prepared with the right bite nothing over cooked beef was excellent very tender and cooked to perfection. The only negative I would have would be a personal preference on the gravy it was quite thick still tasty but I would much rather a jus using the juices from the beef. To Finish we tried the the maple bacon cheese cake was unusual but works! Overall an excellent experience very attentive and friendly front of house. For 19 dollars for a dinner of the quality you won’t find anywhere else. You can feel the love gone into this from the back of house team ( lots of hours prepping those baby turnips I’m sure! I work In industry)well done and I will see you next Sunday! PS if you could do a jus gravy that...
