I’ve been to this location a few times now and always had a good experience. But today the staff taking my order was so rude. I asked for the last crème brûlée that was displayed in the window but she just shrugged and sighed and said that it’s sold out after taking it away from the window and putting it behind her. Didn’t give an explanation why it was even displayed if it is actually “sold out”?
So I asked for the black forest and an iced chai latte instead and she looked so displeased taking my order. She had a smug look in her face the whole time. I asked if i can have soy milk then she gave me a big sigh and said they don’t have soy, only almond and oat. That’s fine, i understand if it’s busy and you run out of things but the way she talked to me made me feel bad as a customer. It’s like she didn’t want me to be there.
After finishing the payment, she didn’t even acknowledge me or anything. I saw her preparing the black forest cake so i thought she would just hand it to me after payment so I was waited by the counter. But nope, she came back and said “Hi” to me again thinking i was the next person in line. This just shows how much she doesn’t care about customers, didn’t even bother to look up to greet. When she realized i’m not the next customer, she just said “Oh it’s you” then proceed to take the next person’s order. I was confused the whole time. It was busy but i got my drink faster than my cake which was actually just sitting in the counter behind her! I saw her passing the 2 cakes by the counter to the customer who ordered behind me so idk why she couldn’t give me mine too? I had to ask the busy baristas for it. The guy barista was super nice and friendly. Thanked me for my patience and made a joke too.
Idk what’s wrong with the older lady taking my order. If you hate your job, don’t take it out on the customers. I’ve worked in coffee shops before but I never acted like her. I don’t think i’d ever want to come back to this store again. Left a sour taste in my mouth when this dessert place was supposed to be more of an...
Read moreThis second branch of Thierry is quite new in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. I always wanted to visit during the day time but due to work I finally could be able to come tonight.
I came here as I wanted to see how their shop is like other than looking at people’s photos on Google. It was very grand, beautiful and elegant! Love their interior design! Even the washroom was very nice!
Secondly I would like to try their hot chocolate (from their 2021 hot chocolate festival menu). It was quite good! But be expected that it would be very sweet. Ask for dark chocolate if you cannot handle the sweetness of milk chocolate.
I also bought a couple of small cakes (passion fruit cake and tiramisu). They were good. However, I personally still like the ones from Thomas Haas more 😀
The customer service was excellent here. Different types of food is served by different staff. They were quite professional. I started with the cake section. They would ask for my name and enter it into their system. Their computer would remember my order. I kept moving forward and finally got to the cashier. I ordered the hot chocolate and told the cashier my name and she could be able to pull out my order and charge me on all the items that I would like to pay for. The cashier was very polite and friendly. She explained to me and answered my questions about their beverages and food.
Due to Covid-19, the shop has built some plexi-glass between tables. But there were still a lot of customers around 8pm. In terms of doing business during the pandemic, it’s pretty good! I hope the covid-19 will be gone sooner than later, so everything will get back to normal and customers can go to the shop and enjoy the drinks and food normally.
There is some street parking outside the shop. However, sometimes this neighbourhood is quite busy during day time. Thats why I would prefer to go in the evening which has a bit more street parking. Of course walking to the shop would be ideal if you are living the in the same...
Read moreI walked into this place around 6pm today (not busy at all) for the first time and ordered a half hot chocolate with caramel to go. What happened next was ridiculous. The Australian barista who was assigned to make my drink completely ignored me, choosing instead to have a long (at-least 4 minute), casual conversation with another customer behind me who turned out to be a friend of hers while I just stood there waiting. Eventually, one of her coworkers had to step in and remind her I’d been waiting—and still, she didn’t start the drink.
About 4 more minutes pass, and when she finally gets around to it, she doesn’t even know how to make it. She has to ask her coworkers, which would’ve been fine if I hadn’t already wasted so much time just standing there. They help her out, and what I get is a cup barely even half full. Maybe two sips.
When she finally hands it to me, she says, “Oh sorry it took so long, I was learning how to make it”—which is a total lie because I watched her spend most of that time chatting away instead of doing her job. Like, don’t treat me like I’m stupid. I was standing right there.
To top it off, she closed the lid with her bare hands—the same hands she’d just been using to touch bar rags and dirty dishes. The drink wasn’t even hot. I didn’t have time to complain because I had to be somewhere—but I’ll never be back. Total waste of time and money. So disappointed.
I’d also like to point out that this seems to be a theme with a lot of coffee shops in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood—being made to stand around and wait way too long for basic service. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a Black woman, and so far the baristas I’ve dealt with have been fellow millennials who assume I won’t mind. But I do mind. I find it really...
