Sing Sing Main St surprised me in the best way possible. I came in without big expectations and left genuinely impressed by how creative and unique their food was. It’s not a traditional Vietnamese or Italian spot, yet their takes on pho and pizza felt bold, thoughtful, and memorable.
I ordered the pho bo and the kimchi & brisket pizza.
The pho bo was the standout for me. Honestly, I wouldn’t even call it “pho” in the traditional Vietnamese sense—it deserves to be its own category. The broth was noticeably different: more herby, slightly saltier, and refreshing. I suspect they used ingredients like celery or other aromatics not normally found in pho, giving it a greener, brighter profile. Definitely not your conventional pho broth, but very enjoyable in its own way.
The meat selection also broke from tradition. Instead of thin slices of lean beef, they served a large chunk of brisket—about one-third fat and the rest meat. For me, that richness and beef aroma was off the charts, adding depth and indulgence that you’d never find in a typical pho. That said, if you dislike fatty cuts, it might not be for you. They also make their meatballs in-house. Unlike the springy, factory-style pho meatballs, these were spiced, ground into a paste-like consistency, and came out chewy, sticky, and bursting with flavor in every bite. A very unique and surprisingly delicious twist.
The kimchi & brisket pizza also worked shockingly well. I wasn’t sure how kimchi and brisket would land on a pizza, but it turned out balanced and addictive. The crust was thin, hot off the grill, and came to the table still sizzling. The brisket (same cut as the pho but without the fatty bits) was shredded into small pieces, layered with hoisin, mozzarella, green onion, cilantro, pickled onions, sesame seeds, and a drizzle of spicy mayo. That mayo drizzle was the secret weapon—rich, umami-packed, and possibly blended with hoisin. It elevated the pizza from “interesting fusion” to “actually delicious.” I’d come back just to try more of their experimental pizza lineup.
The only downside was the service. Everyone was friendly, but it felt understaffed or overwhelmed when we went. Our OpenTable reservation wasn’t properly ticked, even though I specifically told the server I booked under my name, which later flagged me as a no-show. Not a dealbreaker, but something they could tighten up.
Overall, Sing Sing Main St is worth visiting for their unique food alone. If you’re a fan of pho or pizza and want to see both reimagined in unexpected but tasty ways, this place is a gem. I’ll...
Read moreI would rate my first visit as a 4 star, but upon my second visit, it's down to 2 stars. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience service-wise.
The first time we came for happy hour, we found the service to be pretty good and the value was great as well. I got the pho bo for $14.25 which was a good portion, although the taste was not super authentic. The $5 nada colada was delicious too. The food is average, maybe 3 stars.
The second time, we sat down around 10 pm. The waitress came by and seemed to rush us to order, but we told her we needed a few more minutes. By the time we ordered, it was after 10 pm for sure, I remember looking at the time and it was 10:05 pm. However, when she brought us the bill at the end of our meal, our entire bill was listed with regular prices, not happy hour. When we politely brought this to her attention, she argued that we ordered before 10 pm, but of course that was not the case. The bill even had the timestamp of 10:09 pm, which we pointed out and the waitress said that was when she "printed" the bill. That makes no sense? Anyway, upon our insistence of ordering after 10 pm, she went back and re-did our bill without an apology.
After paying the bill, we sat around chatting for some time. Then, when we left, a second waitress chased half our group outside the restaurant and accused us of not paying our bill. My friends went back in with her, where she checked her till and of course could see proof of payment. Again, there was no apology for the mix up or accusation. These 2 incidents really ended our night on a sour note. I understand that mix ups can happen, but at the bare minimum, an apology is warranted.
The atmosphere is casual and loud, good for larger groups. However, after my last experience there, I would hesitate to recommend any of my friends to go. It is a shame as they are one of the only places open that late on a weekday and in the area for a lot of us. The only reason they aren't at 1 star is because the food is okay for the happy hour price. Also, for some reason, the second time I got their nada colada, it didn't taste as good, so I don't think they are consistent. But that is really minor in comparison to the other issues we...
Read more💀This place is honestly an anti-Asian restaurant 💀I’m never coming back to this restaurant. I used to be a loyal fan of Sing Sing and have visited many times, even though the service was never particularly great. I never had high expectations, but today was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had.
I’ve never encountered such blatantly discriminatory behavior at a restaurant serving Asian food.
We ordered a pho bo and asked for a split bowl. They brought out a spicy pho instead, and the person who brought it wasn’t even our server. they just said, “Okay, I’ll let your server know.” When our actual server came, we explained we had ordered the nonspicy pho bo and paid for a split bowl. But instead of two bowls, they brought one large bowl and said, “You guys can just share it.” Seriously? We paid the $3 split bowl fee, we weren’t asking for a favor.
We asked them to bring it properly, and when they did, it was worse than before. No spoon was provided (even though we saw them give spoons to other tables). At first we didn’t realize anything was wrong, but once we got to the bottom, we noticed the bean sprouts were spoiled and smelled terrible. No wonder the broth tasted off.
When we brought it up, they just said the kitchen said it was fine to eat. Really? Look at the photo, does this look fine to you?
Since we had already eaten a little (before realizing it was spoiled), we didn’t ask for a refund, but they ended up removing the pho bo from our bill. Still, we left feeling disgusted and disappointed.
We even left a tip, but I’ll never go back. It’s shocking to experience this kind of treatment in such a multicultural city. Have you seen how many reviews mention racial discrimination here?
I used to come here because the food was genuinely good (I rlyrly recommended this place to many of my friends, and I’ll even include photos to prove how often I used to visit.. ). I really did come here a lot., but now it’s a place I associate with a really...
