Shinas has potential but falls short on the basics of good service and food quality. The atmosphere initially seemed promising, but the experience was disappointing from start to finish. Here's what went wrong:

Waited 10 minutes to be seated despite multiple available tables. (12:16-12:26) The owner, who was also serving, prioritized cleaning tables over seating guests. There was multiple tables to seat two people but was too in the “zone” and proceeded to clean… There was available tables to seat us right away but instead she proceeded to bring back the dirty plates into the kitchen two times. I thought after the first time she’d seat us right away but instead her priority was to clean up tables that could’ve waited until customers were seated. Had to ask the barista if we would be seated. She then went to talk to the owners son/co owner (behind the drink bar) and we saw him say yeah my mom will seat them. He didn’t offer to step in & help… Overpriced cappuccinos at $10, served extremely hot and without sugar on the table. Was suggested to use a napkin to hold and drink them… It burned our fingers to hold (had no handle on the mug) -Guests were expected to fetch their own sugar from a station. I asked the barista where’s the sugar and she pointed where I can get it… I don’t understand why there’s no sugar, salt & pepper already placed at all of the tables… -Breakfast portions were small, with hard, butterless bread. Very dry bread. I saw on other customers photos of their meal that they had butter on the side. Ours didn’t. I wasn’t going to fan down our “waitress” for butter, when we had to get our own salt and sugar… -No check-in during the meal; “the owner/waitress” admitted forgetting. A check-in is where we could’ve asked for the items that were missing… Again, wasn’t going to fan her down… A check up should’ve been done when she stated the cappuccino was too hot… She kept eating her fruit bowl and cleaning tables while having food in her mouth. Eating while working, especially in a visible role like cleaning tables, comes across as unprofessional and unhygienic, as it gives the impression of carelessness and a lack of respect for the business and its customers. -Staff distracted: one worker (owners son) was constantly on his phone. NOT A SERVER but rather the young gentlemen behind the “drink bar”. (The owners son/co owner) I saw 2 other guests had to retrieve items like salt, pepper, or water themselves... Despite claiming to be busy, the restaurant wasn’t crowded.
