I've been going to this restaurant for years and it truly has the best sushi. I dread going to other places as I know it'll never live up to the standards of Aroowha.
The service however, is really not great. I went for lunch yesterday and realized that they had changed the menu, raising their prices quite a bit. Honestly, this didn't bother me, given the economy, I'm surprised they had kept their prices as low as they had for so long, but they changed the items and what used to be is no more
I ordered what used to be the "Spicy Han Shitake Maki", which is now just the "shitake mushroom roll". And because i said spicy they charged me extra. The price was already $4 more than I used to pay, but no one said anything about spicy being extra. When I asked about the extra charge on the bill, they ONLY THEN informed me that spicy is extra, I complained that they should have mentioned the extra charge when I ordered it, but were dismissive and uncompromising. It was really uncomfortable and just really bad service.
I also ordered the tofu lunch, which is now a bento box meal that includes a California roll (has meat). When I asked if they could switch out the California roll for a vegetarian roll ( y'know since it's a tofu meal) they said no. When I said I'll order something else then, the waitress' tone got very terse and argued with me about what it has to be a California roll. They did end up giving me a cucumber roll instead, which I appreciate and thanked them, but their overall attitude after that was just very negative.
It was just such a bad experience and I really hope something changes because I absolutely love this place. And until now I always felt welcome. Hope it was...
Read moreYesterday my wife asked me to pick us up some sushi from my return from downtown Toronto. I called in the order to ArooWha and they said my order will be ready in 30 minutes. There was no rush... Well I did not make it on time. Unfortunately I was in a head on collision just a few blocks away. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. While we were in emerge. My phone rang and my wife told them the tragedy and said not to worry and wished us only the best. I was later released from the hospital and just before 10 and I called them to apologize and asked if I can still pick up my order. 6 hours later. Inez the manager said that they will make it for us fresh. It is now after 10pm and they all stayed late to serve us. This place closes at 10pm. My wife was greeted by an Angel Inez who was so concerned for my will being. She did not charge us but that's not the point at all. She really touched us and gave us hope. The food here is the best in the city but when you have a manager that goes the distance and shows just how much she cares. Speaks volumes. Inez thank you, thank you, thank you. Read moreA-Ruined is what I would call this place now. Been ordering for a couple of years and it WAS amazing! Best sushi! Ordered last night and I noticed their website has changed and prices have increased by 25+ % across the board. What used to cost me $38 is now suddenly $48. I asked the waiter if the platter was still the same combination of fish and he said yes, of course. Got home and first thing we noticed is the presentation went way downhill. They used to include daicon and lemon wedges in a black plastic platter arranged very nicely. Now its a orange/gold plastic platter with no daicon or lemon and very low quality fish, except the salmon seemed the same, the tuna was gray in color, the other what I assumed was snapper looked orangey with red pot marks. No bbq eel like they used to include. Only one sweet shrimp instead of 2 like before. I also used to get 3 beautiful pieces of red tuna sushi, now replaced by 4 grey tuna pieces (or what ever that was). Wow! This is how you take something successful and ruin it completely.
