When paying $41.99 / person to eat, one would expect premium food and service. This mandarin was not a good place to enjoy a birthday. There were a few issues with the dinner buffet:
Majority of the food was not hot, it was luke warm to cold. The beef stakes cooked were not consistent. Some were super rare, while others were very well done and super chewy. The black peppered steak also had alot of gristle and fatty bits inside. The spring rolls have absolutely no flavor and were oily, so were the chicken wings.
The cheese pizza was absolutely gross, and had this sweeter than normal sauce, which made it difficult to enjoy how pizza should be. Boneless chicken pieces were not available on two occasions, when asking the chef, I was told to wait until they were done. The salmon was ok but the skin was absolutely wet and soggy, why even leave it there who would eat fish skin like that, it should either be fried or removed either way this was not it.
If I'm paying top tier pricing ( the same they charge on holidays, new years and Christmas) I should get top tier service, so I went to the manager to voice my concerns , she was there to listen to me, but she wasn't .
It's unfortunate that the manager's English dialect was really poor, so when I am explaining the reasons for my dissatisfaction, she is only responding to key trigger words that she understands. It's unsettling to know she only understood maybe 20% of what I was saying.
Her resolution was to waive my daughters buffet price, and she offered to have the staff sing happy birthday with a cupcake. There was one staff, our server, who sang happy birthday and brought out the cupcake. Thanks for the picture, but isn't the whole point to make the guests feel like they are having a good experience? She gave me the impression that the mandarin staff ( as in more than one ) would collectively sing happy birthday to right the wrong from the complaints voiced regarding the food quality.
The other mandarin location on queens plate is way more appealing to eat in, the food tastes better and always hot.
I would absolutely not recommend this mandarin , and would never go here again. The quality of the food is just not the same, almost like management is cutting corners to save pennies at the expense of consumers...
Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Mandarin Vaughan was so unbelievably bad that I feel it’s important to warn others. The customer service here is absolutely disgraceful. From the moment we walked in, the staff were cold, unfriendly, and shockingly rude. Instead of treating guests with even the slightest bit of respect, they acted like we were an inconvenience to them. Their tone, their body language, and their complete lack of basic manners made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
What shocked me even more was the manager’s behavior. You would expect a manager to step in, apologize, and try to improve the situation — but instead, he was aggressive, arrogant, and downright hostile. The way he spoke to us was condescending and insulting, as if our presence there didn’t matter at all. I have never in my life been treated with such disrespect and unprofessionalism in a restaurant setting. It was humiliating, and it completely ruined what was supposed to be a joyful birthday celebration with family.
To make matters worse, the restaurant itself feels depressing. The décor is old, outdated, and poorly maintained. It’s clear that nothing has been updated in years, and instead of a warm, welcoming environment, you’re surrounded by a place that feels neglected and stuck in the past.
I cannot emphasize this enough: If you care about being treated with kindness and respect, stay far away from Mandarin Vaughan. No celebration, no dinner, and no occasion is worth the level of rudeness and disrespect we experienced here. This was hands down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had, and I would never recommend this...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I came here earlier tonight for a little “last minute” date night. We enjoyed the variety of food choices, soups, desserts and cocktails. I tried the pink dragon drink and my boyfriend ordered a screwdriver. Both drinks were really good! My only critique of my beverage was the straw that I was given. The straw was too small to consume the mango boba pearls, so they were more of a garnish than anything.
Together we tried many different dishes. My favourites included; The Black Pepper Beef, General Tao Chicken, vegetables (specifically the baby corn and broccoli). For desserts, the tiramisu, the pecan pie and the pistachio ice cream. His favourites included; the battered shrimp, chicken balls, plain lo mein noodles, and the wonton soup. His desserts were the brownie, the cheesecake and the strawberry ice cream.
We did not particularly enjoy the specialty maple ribs, they were very fatty on the inside and crispy on the outside.
The main critique is that there was no advertisement of prices for the plates. I was a first timer here and my boyfriend had only been a few times many years back. Our bill for 2 all you can eat meals and 2 alcoholic beverages came out to $108. Which is very pricy. We understand why it is that way. There’s lots of variety and you can have as many plates as you like. But we didn’t eat all that much. Yes, we tried lots of different things, but in small quantity.
It would’ve been nice to be told at the host stand; “table for two, okay, 2 all you can eat meals (not including drinks) is roughly $(insert price here)”. Especially after I said it was my first time...
