Extremely disappointing and unprofessional behavior from the owner.
I visited My Zaidieās Bakery about 30 minutes before closing on a Friday ā knowing they wouldnāt reopen until Sunday. I planned to buy a cake and politely asked for a small a discount (around $3), considering the cake would sit over the weekend. One of the staff members kindly pointed me to the owner ā a bald man wearing a small yarmulke, who apparently isnāt there often.
To my shock, the owner responded with hostile anger in front of other customers, shouting, āI donāt owe you anything! No discount!ā not even a penny discount! His tone was aggressive, almost confrontational, as if I had done something deeply offensive by asking a simple, reasonable question.
What struck me most was the lack of basic decency ā especially from someone who runs what is marketed as a religious Jewish bakery. If he truly lived by the values of Torah ā kindness, dignity, and fair treatment ā this wouldnāt have been his reaction. Letās be honest: heās been running the business for over 30 years. A $3 discount means nothing in the grand scheme ā except, apparently, to his ego. Based on this behavior, itās hard to believe he truly practices what he outwardly represents.
And here's the contrast: Right after this experience, I went to Olive (another kosher store), where I saw a similar cake ā actually priced higher than the one at My Zaidieās. I politely asked the sales rep if there was a discount, since it was just before Shabbat and the cake would go stale. Without even needing a managerās approval, the staff member kindly offered a discount ā and in the end, the cake cost less than it would have at My Zaidieās. Now thatās customer service.
Long story short: the difference in attitude was night and day. My Zaidieās Bakery may have decent baked goods, but if the owner is around, be cautious. The lack of respect and professionalism I experienced was enough to lose me ā and likely others ā...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's really unfortunate that I have to do this but my experience was horrible. I pre-ordered sufganiyot and was charged for it on my credit card. I scheduled pick up for Friday (Dec 11). I ordered well over a week in advanced and I even called 30mins before I went to get them and confirmed they were 95% ready. The person on the phone explained that they are missing a few. Huh? I'm confused. I pre-ordered but ok.. I get there and there's a huge line up outside. I hear some man talking to the baker outside and all I can catch is that the donuts he pre ordered are gone. Gone? Again, confused but ok.. I get inside and I find out the donuts I pre ordered over a week ago and were charged for and I confirmed were 95% there 30mins ago are also gone!!! Things went even more downhill after that. Another woman ordered 5 boxes and those were gone too. Basically what they've done is set up a pre ordering system, charged you for it, then they gave away the donuts to other people because they were "so busy". My hesitation in writing this isn't because I don't understand that it can get busy around this time, it's that they simply don't know how to run a business. If you can't organize a pre order system and a walk in system simultaneously then pick one and do it. Don't take people's money and give away their orders. I was relying on these for someone. It's a massive disappointment. Not to mention I was trying to get additional ones while there and the woman refused to take my money because she didn't see the donuts then tried to take someone else's box to give to me right in front of that person. I was dumbfounded. It is just so obvious they cannot run a business. I'll never go there again and what's even worse is that they'll continue to run because this city doesn't have enough kosher options. So they never have to even try to improve because they'll still get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came last Friday for the first time because I needed two nut free cakes for birthdays and a challah for Shabbat. The women that were serving were very nice and helpful even though it was very busy. But the woman at the cash register was quite rude to a man in line before me who was examining the challah because his daughter allergic to sesame seeds or something. She told him several times to go somewhere else to buy it because he was suggesting that maybe they should be baked on a separate trays. The cakes were looking great but couldn't taste the flavour because it was so sweet that most people couldn't eat it, especially the chocolate meringue cake. The white cake with chocolate chips inside was tasty but the chocolate chips were interfering with the flavour. It felt very unpleasant and did nothing for the flavour. It would be much better without it and less sugar as well. Although the bakery have a very nice cake selection and look good, I don't think I would venture to try it because there are too sweet. The bakery has very nice goods and I could see that there is lots of chocolate and poppy seeds in it. I would love to try that next time. The nice lady that was serving me suggested the pretzel challah. That was a huge success. You can save some money by using only quarter of the sugar that's in the cakes tight now.

To the owner:
Your response to my review is "amazing" to me!
Did you even read it? Which part was amazing to you? The rude cashier or too much sugar?
It would be nice to have some kind of appropriate comment about it. After reading all your comments to your customers' reviews, it seems to me that you really don't care what your customers think about...
