I happened to be in the area and the restaurant signage caught my eye immediately. I love cajun food! Although I was not intentionally looking for fried chicken, I thought I would take some home for a try. Always wanting to try something new.
First thoughts were the interior of the restaurant is very nicely done. It doesn't have a lot of seating, but I guess they are targeting the takeout or delivery market. If you plan to eat in the restaurant be prepared to be amongst customers standing around waiting for their food order. There were a few people waiting for their orders while I was there.
Since it was my first time I ordered what I assume is the main attraction, the chicken. They happened to have an opening special going on (10 pieces for $20). I was offered either regular or spicy chicken. I opted for both (half/half). They have a fair sized menu selection including seafood options. Eventually I'd like to try everything but that will take some time. Definitely not in one sitting. The wait time was about 10 minutes.
While I was there I noticed some business people talking. I decided to chat with them for a little bit. Turns out they were the people who own the new franchise. They were very nice to speak with and are receptive to hearing about the customer experience and opinion. Since it's a new franchise they want to know what we as customers want. They would listen and likely take action. So I suggest everyone try their food and let them know your thoughts.
Customer service was good but nothing out of the ordinary from other fast food restaurants. The packaging is definitely something that will need some improvement. Food came in a simple unbranded white plastic bag. Chicken was in an unbranded brown cardboard box (similar to what you would get cooked fries in at Sobey's or Loblaws). I should mention that they threw in a few biscuits and gravy to try. They too were in unbranded containers. An unbranded container is not a big deal since the quality of the food is the more important thing. But branding will bring the experience up a level. Someone may see you eating from afar and wonder where you got it.
Chicken was very good. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Seasoning was just enough to satisfy the fried chicken craving. The spicy chicken had a little bit of heat but not too much. If your looking for extra spicy you may need to bring your own hot sauce. Not sure if the restaurant offers extra hot sauces. The pieces were whole pieces (leg and thigh). Not like the other chicken restaurants that smartly cut up the pieces so many ways and count each little piece as a whole piece of chicken. I didn't see any white meat. Not sure if that's a coincidence but all I got were dark meat pieces. No wings either. Something to explore or inquire about next time. Biscuits were also crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, not dry. The gravy was tasty and not overpowering. I'd recommend having biscuits and gravy with the chicken as they complete the whole meal. Although there were no vegetables but that was my choice.
Overall I enjoyed the experience. It's a new fried chicken restaurant with seafood options amongst an already congested fried chicken space. This location at Bathurst and Steeles is not close to me but I will go there again. There are other locations already in the works so there may be a closer location for you to try in the...
Read moreTLDR, Would give 3.5 stars. Great food, poor service. But some inconsistencies.
Eaten here about 8 times in the past few months. Food is delicious. Crunchy chicken, good selection of sides. We almost always enjoy everything we have ordered but have seen some inconsistencies with portion size. One time had maybe 5 small onion rings in the box. The sandwich wasn't great, as the bread got soggy and it was a bit bland. The Chicken Tenders are my fave thing to get.
The problem here is the service. Everyone is nice enough, but you never know if you'll be waiting forever for your order. Sometimes they take WAYYY too long to have everything, and when they give you an ETA, just double it. But at least the food is fresh! There is one particular cashier who is nice, but never seems to know what she's doing. The 3 worst experiences, she's been the cashier. I dont think this is the right job for her. Takes a while to place the order with her asking for help over and over. When the owner is there, the atmosphere is way better. People working harder and just generally seem more upbeat. Today after a few minutes of standing at the cash waiting for someone to come take our order, I had to look behind and call someone over. This never happens when the owner is around. Hoping the service gets better or we will have to stop...
Read moreThought I would try the food at the Orillia location. Hacpve no idea how the food was as I never received it but the service was terrible. There were 8 people ahead of me when I arrived who had already ordered. Lots of food ready and under the warmer, but the front staff had no idea what they were doing. The supervisor wasn't helping or addressing complaints. Every order ahead of me, customers complained the order was incorrect. After a half hour I gave up and asked for refund. I did notcwant chicked and fries that had been sitting under heat lights for at oeast a half hour. Supervisor kept refusing saying they were working on my order. Eventually I received my refund and left. The restaurant has been open over a week now so there is no excuse. There was lots of food ready, just an inability of the front staff to bag or tray the food in any competent way and a supervisor who stood around doing nothing. I have no plans...
