I have been seeing this place pop up on my Instagram feed a lot recently. With my love for Vietnamese food and this location not being too far from me, I gave them a visit the first chance I got!
Vietnoms is tucked in a big plaza by Bathurst and Steeles. There is tons of free parking so no worries there. It has a double door entry and when you first walk in, it looks like a little cafe bar where two employees greeted me. I was there for takeout, but could see a long hallway that led to the dining area. The great thing about this design is that you won't have any drafty winds flowing in when customers enter/exit.
When I let the employee know I was here for takeout, they were great in offering me a menu pamphlet and introduced me to their off menu as well. The employee was also great about explaining other off menu drinks, like their milk foam beverages. Ordering was easy, I paid via credit card and was offered a seat to wait. Instead, I told them I'd step out and return in 15 minutes.
I must say, even for takeout, the service was impeccable. I already mentioned that they took care to explain the menu, but also, they were very considerate about me having to carry a takeout bag and two drinks - I was offered assistance to my car and when I declined, the employee was very kind to open the doors for me on my way out.
Now onto the food! I got the following: FRESH ROLL WITH PORK & SHRIMP: Thanks to the loads of fresh shredded lettuce and carrots in these, the size of the rolls themselves are quite big. This added so much crunch! For protein, there's a usual amount of shrimp and pork which were both tender to bite. GRILLED PORK & SPRING ROLL WITH VERMICELLI: For $14.75, the portion was decent but I do wish there was slightly more grilled pork to better the ratio of meat-to-vermicelli. Otherwise, the flavors were good and there was a lot of texture, like crunch thanks to the abundance of lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumbers, and carrots. ICED FILTER COFFEE WITH CONDENSED MILK: a nice classic which was strong, bold and slightly sweetened. MATCHA LATTE WITH PANDAN MILK FOAM: In all honesty, I'd come back just for this drink alone. Everything about it was so well-done, between the flavors that came through nicely and the creaminess of the beverage. There was absolutely no graininess to it, just purely...
Read moreHad a serious craving for a Banh Mi sandwich and finally gave Vietnoms Thornhill a try. It’s been sitting on my list for a while and I usually go to the Sheppard location, but this was my first time at the Thornhill spot. To tame the hunger, I went all in and ordered three Banh Mi sandwiches, grilled chicken, grilled pork, and grilled beef, all with extra pâté and fromage. Service was super friendly, even though I only stayed in the takeout area. Staff were welcoming and attentive in a way that’s honestly not too common at a lot of Vietnamese spots. I had to run a quick errand while the food was being prepped and came back around 15–20 minutes later. When I picked up the order, I really appreciated the extra care the clerk took in checking each sandwich and labeling everything properly. It made the whole experience feel a bit more thoughtful. Taste-wise, everything hit the spot. Meats were cooked well with solid flavor and nice texture. The bread was on the softer side compared to the usual super-crispy Vietnamese baguettes, which I didn’t mind at all. It made the sandwich easier to eat and gave it more of a comfort food vibe. Pricing is fair, even generous, especially considering the quality. That said, I do wish there was a bit more meat packed in, just enough to make it feel more balanced. I’d honestly be happy to pay a buck or two more for a bit of extra protein. Also, the pâté and fromage add-on was there, but so subtle that it barely stood out. It didn’t take away from the sandwich, but it was hard to notice, especially when you’re paying extra for it. This review is just based on the takeout sandwich run, but I’ll definitely be back to try other dishes. I’ve heard great things about their overall menu and how it delivers real value. Looking forward to checking it out...
