Originally was looking for a GameCube for nostalgic reasons as I grew up being a GameCube kid, I price matched every second hand game stores and they beat out every store for GameCube prices, some online like eBay and Amazon were cheaper by 20-30$ but they’re untested and unreliable. I came in one time and bought a GameCube( came with a brand new controller big W) and I paid for Mario sunshine. I Picked up an old crt tv that day, and it didn’t connect to my GameCube so I felt super bummed considering I spent money on stuff I can’t even use. Troubleshooting the problem was easy the hard part was that Amazon was charging 60$ #!$#### for a cable. Called the shop up and explained my problem and this standup employee explained how they work and how there’s little to no lag or delay and the even better news was that it was 12$ total not 60$…. So respect because they could mark that up exponentially
I can’t complain about the pricing of the games too much Atleast in my case I’m looking for games made within 2000-2005 it’s not exactly new so regardless of epic games existence their is a big market for these games out here so their prices are better then any second hand store or game store in Victoria, However I find eBay beats their prices by 10-15 % on average however there’s a far larger margin for buying a non working game, a fake game. Or a differently advertised game, think what makes it worth paying the extra 10-15% at times… the 30 day guarantee and the fact it’s tested by an employee is also nice so there’s assurance there . I will also say I have found myself in their store 3 days in a row picking up Luigi’s mansion and animal crossing. Went in to even talk and show a couple of GameCube games I scored on. Good guys and a good business have no issue spending my hard earned money at this...
Read moreThis is maybe the most impressed i've been by a used game store, even if I ended up finding less games that I was interested in than other stores i've been to. Not only were there a ton of games for (almost) every console I have, but also there's a huge table/figure display section for friday night magic and a mini arcade in the back! Everything was well decorated and the vibes were very good (the runescape music was a nice touch). The arcade had a surprising selection and the prices seemed way cheaper than anything back where I live, although seeing Tetris The Grand Master in some weird WWE fighting game cabinet was a bit strange... worth it for a good laugh though! Every game we looked at seemed fairly priced- I compared prices on a few games I saw at a video game store downtown, and 2 were cheaper here and 1 was more expensive (but only by 10 dollars).
The only real criticism I have is that despite the very wide selection of games there wasn't any "mindblowing" finds or anything in there- to put it better, I didnt leave the store thinking "Wow, I can't believe they had __". There's some expensive mint boxed copies of stuff, but generally what you'd see in other stores. I dont play magic too much, but my friend who does felt the same way about the MTG showcase. There's nothing wrong about this at all, but I didnt leave with any obscure import or pictures of some rare rhythm game/console setup I found myself drooling over. But hey, I live in the GTA so i'm fully aware that Victoria is a much smaller area for people to sell games like this. If the owner can somehow get a huge box of japanese import games for relatively cheap, thats the only thing that I think could be improved! I really enjoyed the rest. If I lived here i'd be a repeat...
Read moreEasily the best retro and used video game shop I've ever visited! I've been frequenting Epic Games & More for over a year, since just before their latest major renovation, and it's always fun to stop by and see what new inventory has arrived. The shop is huge and there's always a great selection of games for all the popular consoles from NES to PS4; if I'm recommended a retro game or discover one online, odds are this shop has it in stock. And their prices are very reasonable, always lower than what's available online whenever I've checked. It has happened to me more than a couple of times where I pay a lot of money to buy a game or accessory online only to discover it has arrived in this shop a few weeks later with a significantly lower price. And beyond just the video games, they have an ever-growing and evolving selection of gaming-related merchandise.
The staff is always friendly and helpful and I've received some good recommendations from them in the past. The shop is very well organized, but if there's ever a time when I can't find something, the staff has always been able to help out. And I appreciate how transparent they are about what their mark-up is when I've traded in games and consoles.
Not only is this place a great game shop, but it's also part of the community, hosting various gaming-related events that seem to keep growing in popularity. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I've visited many retro game shops in other cities around the world, including the Super Potato shops in Japan, and this is my favourite of them all (ok, maybe it's partly because I can't play or understand most of the games at Super Potato, but still, this is an amazing shop!). Keep up...
