This is a review of a meal from the Deadbeetz Food Truck, purchased on Sunday, June 19th at about 1:20 PM on location at Esquimalt Lagoon. I am a senior, and I haven't ever ordered a meal from a food truck before. A new experience for me. I was at the lagoon with my entire family, celebrating Father's Day with the two dads in my family and their spouses and kids. I ordered a Beatrice burger and an order of veggie chips on the recommendation of my son who has visited the restaurant in Oak Bay. The burger was a mess. There was a handful of wet shredded iceberg lettuce under the beef patty, and the bottom of the bun did not survive. It was soggy, disintegrating and could not be handled, so I turned the burger upside down. I had a bite. The thick pickled beet slice was a no go, so I removed the rest of the beets from the burger and tried another bite. I could not eat it. The patty was of the "smashed" style, but way overcooked and unpleasantly flavoured...a dirty grill, I think. The unpleasant taste of the beets and the soggy mess of a burger triggered my gag reflex, and I had to put the burger back in the container. I tried the veggie chips...sweet potato, potato and beet chips, deep fried. Not a winner. There wasn't any allowance made for the different water contents of the three different ingredients. The driest, the sweet potato, was cooked to a cardboard consistency. The potato had a pleasant crunch, but the beet slice is quite wet and the cooked product was spongy in texture. The overall taste was unpleasant. The deep fryer oil was a long way past its change date, and all three "chips" tasted of stale, burnt deep fryer oil. This meal was a total failure. I closed up the container and binned it. If I had been in the sit-down restaurant, I would have sent the meal back to the kitchen and asked for a refund. I didn't wish to have a confrontation with the staff in the food truck, so I just binned the meal and went on with my day. This meal was one of the worst ever offered to me by anyone. It was really a zero star effort. My advice to whoever was in charge...change the deep fryer oil and...
Read moreTo call yourself a burger lover and not to have eaten here is blasphemy, and yet I had done the same until today. As someone who also likes pickled beets, it was a no-brainer, and I ordered the Beetrice, the Dolly P Tennessee, and fries. The staff was lovely, the restaurant itself is very cool with pinball machines and I believe pinball tournaments on some nights. The Dolly P was good, imo needing some form of punchy acidity like pickles or the like to make it amazing. The onion jam was really tasty, I'd give the burger a 7.7/10.
Onto the star of the show, the Beetrice. Wow. I do love pickled beets, so that's step one if you're wanting to try this burger and truly enjoy it. It's also a mess, because pickled beets are about the messiest vegetable to work with, but that's to be expected. Everything about this burger works perfectly, the sauce is super tasty and the combo of the beets & burger really does work well. I'll be back many times to try the rest of the menu and more Beetrice, easily a 9.8/10. The fries are also crispy and tasty too, get them Nashville hot if you like a...
Read moreOwner Karrie Hill has been very successful with her Food Trucks for years but there is something lacking in her newly opened Restaurant. The service is very friendly and welcoming but quoting her from Wednesdays Victoria News "Having a Server come to your table" does not happen there. In fact you come up to the counter to order your food, your asked your name and then a touch screen is turned to you for payment with the cheerful person telling you that there is a Tip option. No kidding, its in big letters asking you on the screen, 15%, 20%..., whether your eating in or out. My "Fresh" Burger comes out in about 3 minutes. My name is called and i get up and pick up my Burger etc. What did i tip for? Very tasty and toppings are just as described. Perfect bun but the beef patty had been cooked earlier and i didnt expect that for the price. The Chips (not Fries) would be nice served warm or hot , not cold and hard like i got. I watched everyone get up and clear there own tables , what did they tip for? What service did they get? I hope your wish to serve Craft...
