Mary Brown's Chicken — Restaurant in View Royal

My wife stopped in for a 9 Piece Feast + 6 biscuits before driving home to Sidney. As we unpacked it, there were no taters. Chicken, coleslaw, gravy and biscuits. I called and the girl on the phone asked what happened. I explained and then there was silence. I said hello and she replied hello. Then she said “Here’s your change sir, thanks for coming in” Again I said hello and she said “Hello, how can I help you?” I asked “Did you start serving a customer while you were talking to me and forget we’d already been having a conversation?” She said I could drive back to Esquimalt from Sidney for the taters or get a refund for the taters, since that’s all they forgot to give us. I said we had already paid and driven it home and now she was acting like it wasn’t a big deal. Why bother giving us the gravy then? Do we pour it over the coleslaw? She said my supervisor says we’ll either give you the taters or refund the taters. Lousy customer service after ruining our meal Will not spend another...

I've been to Mary Brown's in Victoria, more actually View Royal, twice now in a week.

I haven't had Mary Brown's chicken for nearly 20 years since I lived in Ontario last.

I grew up loving Mary Brown's chicken, but lost touch of it as I moved around the country when it was not as readily available.

I was very excited to try Mary Brown's chicken in forever, and the first time, they screwed up my order and gave me spicy chicken on a 13 piece order when I wanted half and half.

So it was my 2nd time visit that I got the right order for original recipe chicken... much better.

I wouldn't say it was mind blowing to go down memory lane because I've had COVID and lost my sense of taste and it's just not what it used to be, I can sorta taste the familiar taste but not really... that's not the restaurants fault.

Still the initial mix-up of the first order annoyed me.

I will definitely go back again in the near future but I have had a lot of fried chicken lately so I gotta...

The anticipation was palpable. Today was the day. I was finally going to get Mary Brown’s Fried Chicken for our weekly take out meal. (Usually Pizza Wednesday but today was special - our anniversary) I haven’t had MBFC since I moved from Newfoundland in 2011. I drove to Aldersmith Place in View Royal BC to the finally opened Mary Brown’s. I reached for the door to open my way into chicken heaven and a young man in a Mary Brown’s uniform says “we’re closed”. I said, “Closed”? It’s supper time (it was 4:15 pm. what can I say, I’m a senior). The kid replies with “closed for maintenance”, and tries to hand me a take out menu. I said, what on earth am I going to do with that - you’re closed”. Who schedules maintenance on a Wednesday afternoon. Unless it emergency maintenance - I would have been more sympathetic to that scenario had I been told. All in all I am extremely disappointed in Mary Brown’s newly opened store in View Royal, BC. I doubt I’ll go back, if only for...
