It was quite a chilly day yesterday, so we were looking for some warm and hearty food to fill us up. We decided to go to Asakusa, a Japanese restaurant located in UW Plaza. As soon as we entered the restaurant the ambiance was really lovely and homely, with traditional Japanese paintings hanging on the wall to the warm lighting of the restaurant. We decided to order their Miso Ramen (Mild), Fried Udon Noodles w/ Chicken and for appetizers we got Takoyaki. The food service was really quick and we didn't have to wait long for our order to come! The presentation for all three dishes was immaculate, and the taste was amazing too! The miso ramen was the perfect dish to warm me during the winter. The miso ramen consisted of Tonkotsu creamy soup with miso seasoning, chashu, Tamago, green onion, bean sprout, wood ear, corn, and bok choy. The broth had a nice kick to it but it wasn't too spicy, overall it was really yummy and filling! The Udon Noodles were a new dish in their menu we decided to try it is was pretty good, the portion sizing was amazing and the juicy chicken pieces definitely complimented the noodles. Lastly, the Takoyaki was crisp, it was creamy, and it was most definitely delicious! Overall. the food at Asakusa was great and quite authentic! If you're looking to try Japanese ramen and other traditional Japanese food, definitely give Asakusa a try! They've even got veggie options for their Ramen, along with countless other items to try, check it out!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Asakusa Restaurant in Waterloo, and I must say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish. This charming Japanese restaurant exceeded my expectations in terms of both the food and the overall dining atmosphere.

First and foremost, the cuisine at Asakusa is absolutely fantastic. As a fan of Japanese cuisine, I was thrilled to find a restaurant that offers such a diverse and authentic menu. From the moment I took my first bite, I could tell that the ingredients were fresh and of high quality. The sushi was expertly prepared, with a wide variety of rolls to choose from. Each piece was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The sashimi was equally impressive, with the fish being incredibly fresh and the cuts done to perfection.

Aside from sushi and sashimi, Asakusa also offers a range of other Japanese dishes. The ramen was a standout for me - the broth was rich and flavorful, and the noodles had the perfect texture. I also highly recommend trying their teriyaki dishes, which are cooked to perfection and served with a mouthwatering glaze. The menu caters to various dietary preferences, including vegetarian and vegan options, ensuring that everyone can find...

Service was okay. The place was completely empty though so I expected a little more care. The food was alright, but overpriced I think. I had the ramen (first menu item) for $15 + tax but it didn't even seem to come with proper ramen noodles.

I've never left a review before, but the 4 large sized pieces of egg shell mistakenly put in the ramen made me gag after eating. To me that's unacceptable. Ate one by mistake, after the next 3 I stopped eating entirely. Killed my appetite. It's the only restaurant I've been to that has made me not want to finish a meal. Bummer because my friend really likes the meat used in the ramen, but I can't bring myself to come back.

Apologies for the gross looking tissues-- I had to spit out my food a few times because of the shells. The attached photo is just for scale on how large the shells were.

Personally, I would always choose to go next door to MoMo if I wanted Japanese. It tastes better, is cheaper, and is of...

Asakusa receives a 3.7-star rating in this food review. The restaurant offered food with good flavour, we ordered miso ramen, red dragon ramen, chicken skewer and grilled gyoza, all good flavour. Loved the chili powder condiment on the table! However, there were several issues that affected the overall experience. The egg in the ramen was quite overcooked and rubbery, not matching the menu or previous customer photos. The chicken skewer garnishes were a bit scattered and the sauce was thick and gluey, also a bit cold but again different to customer photos from as early as a month ago so some consistency issues as far as the visual goes. The gyoza's crispy web was soggy around the edge and undercooked. Additionally, the appetizers arrived half way through finishing our ramen, and the service was friendly but not attentive. Despite the drawbacks, we will still visit again because I believe they can do better. Those ramune drinks were fun and enjoyable as well.
