We visited Brown Donkatsu in Waterloo on a Wednesday afternoon for a family dine-in, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. We ordered the Brown Katsu, Teri Katsu, and the Cheese Stick Katsu appetizer. Each dish was freshly prepared upon order, served hot, and had the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside with tender meat inside. The portion sizes were very generous, offering great value for the quality of food.

Our server was polite, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They checked in at the right moments, assisted us with recommendations, and thoughtfully helped with packing leftovers so nothing went to waste. This level of service made the meal feel welcoming and stress-free.

The dining area was clean, well-maintained, and comfortable for families. Even the washroom was spotless, which shows attention to detail in maintaining a positive dining environment. Overall, Brown Donkatsu delivers on food quality, service, and cleanliness. A great place in Waterloo for anyone looking to enjoy authentic katsu in a pleasant atmosphere. We look forward to...

Large portions at a reasonable price, on average about $22-$26 per portion of Katsu. Noodle dishes costed somewhere in the teens, so more affordable.

Fish and shrimp set pictured (about $23) has 2 fish fillets and 5 shrimp, all very crispy and paired nicely with the brown sauce and tartar sauce provided. The cabbage was kind of wet and limp, the rice was a bit hard and dry, but the corn was sweet. Severely disproportionate ratio of Katsu to sides, where bigger sides portions are needed to balance all the fried food.

Restaurant is somewhat small and can get crowded very fast, maybe about 32 seats. Service was good — waitress took our order and came back about 10 mins later asking for our order again because either the staff forgot it or lost the order, but tried to rectify it by offering free beverages.

The dining room can get quite loud if there are some loud talkers, especially because non-booth tables are very close...

Brown Donkatsu in Waterloo is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The decor is modern yet cozy, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive.

The star of the show, of course, is the donkatsu. It’s perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, cooked to absolute perfection. The portion sizes are generous, and each bite is packed with flavor. The accompanying sides and sauces complement the dish wonderfully, making for a well-rounded and satisfying meal.

I also appreciate the variety on the menu, with options to suit every taste. Whether you're a donkatsu aficionado or trying it for the first time, Brown Donkatsu offers something special for everyone. The quality of the food and the overall dining experience are consistently top-notch.

Highly recommend this place if you're in Waterloo and craving some amazing donkatsu. You won't be...

We went there to have late dinner on a Friday. It was pretty full. We had little hard time to find dishes with no meat and mostly fishes as their most popular dishes had either meat or meat broth. The waitress helped us to choose the dishes. We ordered 1 appetizer Takoyaki (octopus), and 2 main dishes Ebidon (rice with fried shrimp) and everything set B ( shrimp, fish and chicken). Altogether the amount was little more for us. The curry sauce with the Everything set B was really very tasty. Other two items were good too except the decorative flakes they used on top of the Ebidon and Takoyaki. There are not much other options other than the tofu. The environment is good and so the service. Probably will go back to try other items.
