Homestyle Diner — Restaurant in Waterloo

We arrived just after 1pm, the restaurant was busy. There was one server talking to a table and taking pictures for them, and the host was at the register. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated at the only cleaned table. About 10 minutes later the second waitress came and took our order, although there were 2 ladies sitting beside us before we arrived that still hadn't had their orders taken. My husband and I were patient and drank our coffee that was brought while we waited for our food. About 35 to 40 minutes went by and I asked another waitress if it is normal to wait this long here. She just kind of giggled and said I will go check. Shortly after our waitress brought our food to us and was visibly frazzled. By this time the restaurant was at about half capacity. We began to eat our food and we're quite disappointed. I ordered the ole albert with chocolate chip pancakes and my husband had the western, whis was supposed to be a sandwich. His was a pile of wet soggy eggs and under cooked veggies, the potatoes looked like they had served 2 rounds or more in a deep fryer. My pancakes had about 6 chocolate chips sprinkled on top, my eggs were supposed to be scrambled but were over done on the outside and not cooked through, the breakfast sausage was still raw inside. It was another 10 minutes before the waitress came to check on us. We told her what was wrong and she did offer to make us a new meal but we had already been there waiting for such a long time I just asked what do we owe for the coffee, they did comp the coffee but we still left disappointed. I dined in today with my friend and had an incredibly disappointing experience because of our server. The other servers appeared much warmer, so I hope this is a one-off experience. We were seated before three other tables, with all of us being served by the same server. Despite this, the server went to the three other tables first before coming to serve us ten minutes later, and making eye contact with me while she was serving another table (perhaps because we resemble university students?).

When ordering, I was spoken to differently than my friend and interrupted when trying to describe what I wanted. Note that English IS my first language yet I was spoken to as if it wasn't and that my sentences needed to completed by the server. When the three other tables had finished eating, we received our food.

The food was acceptable, but cold, perhaps because it was sitting there for a while. I can only think that it became cold during the server's explanation of their new leg tattoo to the table beside us, while we were still waiting to order. While eating, we did not receive the same hospitality as other tables, or even one inquiry about how our food tasted. To finish it all off, the server told us our bill was waiting at the front, despite every other table having their bill brought to them.

Overall, I'm unsure if this is just how younger people are treated by this server, or if it was my own appearance (i.e., Asian). Despite coming here several times before, I can say now I will never come here again. I would not recommend this place if you are...

We have been regulars to this restaurant in the past. But, they are under NEW ownership now and the staff pretty much remains the same. The food and menu remain’s the same.

The reason I am docking a star from them, is very simple how many times do you need to visit a locations and tell them “ no gravy on your meal and the meal come out with gravy on it ? “ and you have to send the plate back to the kitchen… Yesterday on our visit I ordered meat loaf without gravy on my mash potatoes and meat loaf and when it first came out it was flood in it.

Well to say the least my plate was sent back to the kitchen and I had to wait another 15 minutes for my meal, while my wife and daughter enjoyed their meals, the one pictured in my review.

I should my wife asked for no gravy as well but she scrapped her off. Something I just won’t do as I just don’t like gravy. I will also state their mash potatoes lack any taste, until I put tons of salt on them.

The one thing, I also didn’t like the waitress kept telling how they were short staffed yesterday….

Also she lack getting all of us cutlery, so I had to get up and grab a set off another table so my daughter had some, after the waitress dropped off the food.

One last thing we wait about 15 to 20 minutes before we even got ask about drinks…..I know they were busy…. And as I stated above the waitress kept say “ they were short staffed” but we’ve been there this restaurant in the past when only 3 waitress or waiters are working and gotten better service...
