A Thorough Disappointment - Ye’s Sushi Falls Short on Every Front
I rarely write negative reviews, but the experience at Ye’s Sushi was so thoroughly disappointing that it warrants sharing.
Upon arrival, my party and I stood unattended for ten full minutes before anyone acknowledged us. When a staff member finally did address us, the greeting was cold and unwelcoming. Prior to our visit, we had called to inquire about reservations and were told they were not accepting them. Upon arrival, we were informed there would be a 30-minute wait the group ahead of us, who had a reservation, were promptly seated. A row of Post-it note reservations at the host desk further added to the confusion and inconsistency.
Once seated, we ordered several tempura dishes and sushi rolls, but only some of what we ordered was served and it arrived 45 minutes after ordering. Although the tempura dishes were delivered quickly, they they were soggy on the inside.
When the rolls finally arrived, they were overwhelmingly filled with panko crumbs and lacked discernible or fresh flavor. One roll that was advertised as containing mango had none, and the "Fire Salmon" roll had an unpleasant chemical aftertaste, likely from excessive use of a kitchen torch and the salmon itself was pale(see photo 🤢)
Most concerning, however, were the visible lapses in hygiene. One particular staff member was observed seating guests, serving food, and taking taking payments then assembling salads without gloves.
This meal, which cost $120 for three people, was a complete waste both in terms of money and time. The lack of professionalism, poor food quality, and questionable food safety standards made this a thoroughly regrettable experience.
Ye’s Sushi may want to reconsider its name. Ye’s Tempura and Panko Hut would be more fitting, given the heavy-handed use of both. I will not be returning, and I would strongly advise others to seek a more reputable establishment for their sushi...
Read moreThe service was honestly some of the worst i ever had. I don't think we did anything? We were polite, even as rhe service got worse.
We came in 50 minutes before last call for the night. 20 minutes before it was actually last call, our server told us it was last call, and was getting frusterated with us for not putting in our order fast enough (it took us about 5 min because we wanted to be thorough.) Shortly after taking our order screen (as it was supposedly last call), they sat down another table. She also kept telling us to go to the salad/soup bar so they could close it early.
They didn't actually bring everything that we had ordered, which was disappointing. We didn't push for it because at that point we were trying to leave as soon as possible.
They told us they were closing up dessert 20 min before close. They had put away everything but the ice cream when we went to grab it.
When we paid, they didn't actually give us change even though we asked. We had still planned on tipping, but since the server took the change, we didn't bother trying to balance that out into a proper tip.
The moment 10pm hit the server came back telling us we needed to go like we were overstaying. We were just leaving anyways.
The staff was just really rude. The food was okay, but I don't think i'm going back there. It was...
Read moreYe's sushi was one of the first of its kind (all you can eat) in north Waterloo. I used to love it, but only because there was nothing to compare it too.
The decor is basic and plain. Light colors and artificial wood.
The sushi itself is okay. Often times the rice is over seasoned, and they use WAY to much of it in rolls, probably to fill up customers quicker. The presentation of the food is nice, they do try to make it look appealing. The avocado they use is often mushy and brown and over used. The sides are nice though, especially their tempura batter.
Service is generally terrible, with servers taking plates you are not even finished with off the table. reaching across you while you are eating, and they often interrupt conversations to demand you pass them your dishes. Its not even like the table is extremely full, and they still do this. One time a woman took my plate that had my chocolate sauce for my deep friend banana before i was done with it. I told her to leave it, and she ignored me so i grabbed the plate and she decided to have a game of tug of war. HELLO, please train your wait staff!
I would strongly recommend eating at sushi 99 instead, where the ingredients are fresher and the...
