I have lived on the West side for about 15 years. Whiskey Jacks was always the place to go. About four months ago I went for wing night and ordered my wings and beer at the same time. Got my wings before my beer and I had to go up to the bar and reorder my beer because the waitress was socializing. No apology from her when I asked for the bill. Wait. Did I skip the part where she checked on my beer or my wings? No. Because she ignored me until that point. If anyone has been there then they know which waitress. It's the one that's been there forever. The older one.
I was in the restaurant business for a long time as a server and as a bartender. I know bad days are bad days so I decided to give whiskey Jack's a second chance.
Either her bad days correlate with the days I'm there or it's a normal thing but she was bad again. This time I had to order my tacos from the bar like last time because, well, she was socializing with other people at the pool table.
Anyone in the restaurant business knows that you tip well because those people work hard. And I always do. But when I paid by credit card and she saw that I paid her 10% only on the beer that she brought me she looked me in the eyes and at my card while reading the name out to me. Twice.
The food was good and the beer tasted like beer but the west side is growing and there are other places to go to. I'm done with whiskey Jack's. It may have been a Westbank institution in the past but it's going to go the...
Read moreOn December 2nd I went out to Whiski Jacks to dance with a date. It seemed like a nice place and the staff were friendly. Shortly after we sat at our table for 2 a couple sat beside us at another table for 2 not far apart from ours but for all I know they could have been sitting at our table previously as they had no drinks and the lady had no purse or coat. The couple looked like addicts who were possibly homeless as the lady was emaciated and extremely wrinkled for her age. I didn't want to embarrass them by moving to another table. They sat beside us for a few hours. A few days later I was not only starting to come down with covid, I was beginning to be itchy for some reason. A few days more I was super sick and covered in scabies sores, the female addict had given me scabies which was much worse than covid, but I had both. I phoned the manager Chris at Whiski Jacks to tell him as many would be too embarrassed to and he said he cleans the rugs every 2 weeks and there is nothing else he can do. I suggested a cover charge that included your first drink. He then went back to saying "there is nothing he can do"; in other words there is nothing he will do. I am...
Read moreI'm posting a review only after having gone about a dozen times. My volleyball team goes here after games due to the proximity... but its never anything but a disappointment. Mediocre food and poor service. I don't drink... I go to the pub with my team and I usually have water and some food. I shouldn't have to be ashamed of that. Water is my healthy choice of beverage. On last night's occasion - quite possibly the last time my team and I visit - the waitress said if I didn't order a different beverage that she "would get in trouble". I don't know if that's really the policy of the establishment or her own drivel, but either way it's lost business. OK, they don't want my business because they don't profit off the food (yeah right), but as a team we probably down 20+ beers and I'll see if I can steer that business somewhere else. Was it that big of a deal that she wouldn't serve me? No, but really I was always groaning a bit about going to that place anyway so its the push out the door I needed. That's why I gave the 2nd star, for doing...
