Located in West Vancouver, this French restaurant has a charming, intimate atmosphere perfect for cold weather or rainy days. Located a few minutes from Ambleside Pier, there is ample parking along Marine Drive and especially out front on Clyde Ave. The decor is reminiscent of a European bistro - simple and elegant with the light pastel colours, French landscape paintings on the wall, the wainscoting, the light wooden chairs, etc.
The service was straightforward. We came for the Dine Out experience and the restaurant was busy. We were seated right on time without issue and you could see the waitress balancing both taking orders from other tables and also preparing a few cocktails. Nonetheless, we didn’t wait unduly for anything.
The food was delicious. Starting with the Mereon Salad, the blue cheese was fragrant and was served beautifully in bite-sized endives with candied walnuts. The standout though was the Foie Gras Terrine. It was served with a muscat gelée on brioche toast that was rich and light all at the same time. For the main, the Steak au Poivre was unbelievably good. The tenderloin cut was cooked perfectly for us with a beautiful pepper-forward sauce. The prosciutto-wrapped asparagus was a really nice touch as well. To finish, we had the Chocolate Fondant which was delectable. The salted caramel and vanilla ice cream were an excellent complement to the chocolate, which on its own wasn’t too heavy and had a perfectly smooth consistency.
Overall, this was a great experience and gives us more the reason to come back to West Van. Every item of food was cooked perfectly and the flavour was so well done. We would love to come back to try their...
Read moreThis was my first time dining at Mereon, and definitely not my last. The ambiance was cozy, with a charming French vibe, tasteful decor, and soothing instrumental music playing in the background. My little sister and I started with the escargot, beef tartare, lamb chops, and foie gras terrine. However, when the foie gras arrived, I was taken aback by its overwhelmingly bitter flavor, which was very unusual to me and not to my liking. I am not usually the type to send food back, especially since foie gras is one of my all-time favorites, so this was a real disappointment.
When I brought it to the waitress’s attention, she was understanding, professional, and genuinely kind. After checking with the chef, she explained that their preparation and flavours might differ from other restaurants, and kindly offered to recommend a popular alternative. A few moments later, she returned with the salmon appetizer—and I absolutely loved it! (All the other dishes we ordered were just as superb)
I highly recommend Mereon not only for its delicious food and attentive service but also for where it is located. Just nearby there are beautiful views of the water at Millennium Park. This was the perfect spot for a post-dinner stroll. Thank you Mereon, for your thoughtful care and wonderful...
Read moreI was excited to try this restaurant based on the reviews provided online but it was a disappointment. Our server was a woman who seemed like she was new - she was courteous and polite. However, while she was occupied, I flagged a server down to ask for some serviettes and he did not seemed pleased. Perhaps it's an isolated incident but I asked him for some water later on (again, our server was helping someone else and the restaurant was quiet and he was just standing there). Received the same type of response - you can tell that he was not happy. However, for some reason, when other people in the restaurant asked for assistance (he was not helping their table), he had a smile on his face and was eager to help. The food was mediocre. We ordered duck confit 6/10, mussels & fries 7.5/10, and their omelette 6/10. Portions were small and did not reflect the price. Throughout our meals, it felt like the servers (minus the woman who was helping us) or attendants were staring at us - and we were not at all loud but just having a normal conversation. Is it because we were Asians? It certainly felt that way, which may seem presumptuous but sadly, when the three of us left the restaurant we all came to that conclusion. We certainly will not be coming back to this...
