If you really want to try this place....go and dine in....maybe then they'll practice some standard in serving you and their presentation.
So, regretfully we decided to pick up some Sushi on our way to a potluck dinner party. I ordered the Deluxe Sashimi Platter and the Dynamite Sushi Combo over the phone, and they made sure to let me know that they would be charging me extra for extra ginger on an order that was already overpriced and under-delivered. Ok...here's the deal:
In any part of the world where living beings have two ears, one mouth, two eyeballs, five fingers, walk upright and tend not eat their first born if it's a cold winter....tend to think of a party platter as....well....a platter for a party...you with me so far?....ok. Well, it was to my surprise that this party platter that we ordered was so tastefully put together in a styrofoam box....YES....Styrofoam. I was relieved that I picked something from the "Chef's choice" section...I mean if it had been let's say from the "Janitor's section"....I probably would've been handed each sashimi in the palm of my hand....(no offence to janitors....they make the world a much cleaner place!).
So yeah.....the octopus in the sushi combo was very chewy and the Dynamite roll....I've had better Dynamite Rolls at airport lunch counters..... Don't ask me what I was doing at the lunch counter at the airport.
The whole experience at this place was just so underwhelming, blahhh and simply a...
Read moreThere are some dishes here worthy of 4 stars, but I am giving 3. The reason? Although the service is excellent, they come up short in a few areas. Every time I have ordered Salmon Sashimi they have forgotten to ask if I want farmed or Sockeye. The two don't even compare in quality. Sockeye is 1,000 times better. Once they just assumed I wanted farmed and brought it. I went on Christmas Eve, 2017, and asked for Sockeye Sashimi. The server came back to the table 10 minutes later and asked if I wanted farmed or Sockeye, even after I made the effort to be very specific. The Tuna Tataki is horrible. It's as though they don't know what it is. When I order it they ask if I mean grilled tuna. They brought it, over cooked and mixed with cucumber slices. If I wanted to taste cucumber, instead of tuna, I would go to a spa and ask for water. I do know that many people find their fish too 'fishy', which I find funny. The tuna is generally more fishy than most places but I prefer that. The decor is a deliberate attempt to look 'classy' as it is in West Vancouver. Upon closer inspection, however, you will note that most of it is of lesser quality. I usually look past such things in any Asian restaurant as the food is more important than the...
Read moreWhen we're on the North Shore and have a craving for high quality Japanese eats, the first place we usually turn to is Bene Sushi.
Featured here: Red Tuna & Avocado Salad Seafood Yakisoba Popeye Roll Avocado Roll
The ingredients here are always very fresh and top notch. The Popeye Roll is a Vegetarian roll and this was our first time trying it. I loved this roll and would happily eat it again! The Inari in this roll gave it a subtle sweetness without being excessively sweet. One of the most delightful Vegetarian sushi rolls I've ever had!
Bene Sushi never ceases to impress me with their Avocado Roll. It's one of the simplest rolls you could order from a Japanese restaurant, but they do it sooo well at this restaurant. The avocado is always a lovely green colour, without a hint of brown in it. Plus the roll is always packed with huge chunks of the avocado and not too much rice surrounding the avocado.
Psst...not featured here, but we tried the Unagi Flame Roll on a previous visit and it was spectacular! I do recommend giving it a try!
