Loved the food. Service was great. Really thought I had found a good, fast restaurant in Whitby, finally!!!
However,
I have this hangup about FOODSAFE practices, and this seems to be an issue at many places.
!!!!THOSE GLOVES YOU WEAR ARE NOT MEANT TO TO PROTECT YOU, THEY ARE MEANT TO PROTECT ME, THE FOOD!!!!
The owner expedites and touches most orders, wearing gloves (great), touches money (same gloves), clears soiled napkins and dishes (same gloves). Watched a customer blow his nose and place the napkins on his tray. Owner took tray, disposed of the waste, then proceeded to make my wrap. It was at this point, I had that awful.feeling I wouldn't be back.
Usually I'm blunt but the place was busy, didn't want to wreck his biz. Literally smiled and said thank you and threw my food in the garbage after I left. Seriously, the box of gloves is a couple bucks. CHANGE YOUR GLOVES, or take them off EVERYTIME you deal with money or hazardous waste. Hepatitis and any other virus are easily spread this way.
Really don't want to hurt your biz but just realised I can't go back. Tried to but got sick thinking about the whole thing. As it was, I went there at least twice per week. I'm sure others notice and I want you to know so you change your ways and maintain a healthy biz with...
Read moreFood was good for Whitby; coming from Scarborough we've had much better. Service was bad, not just bad - rude, specifically the female manager. She's a tyrant. I ordered a Waziri Plate and it came only with the classic tomato sauce, which I don't like. I usually eat this kind of meal with the garlic 'white' sauce, which they didn't include. Understandable, as even Bamiyan sometimes doesn't give the white sauce with their food unless you ask. Although some places will give it by default and then some (shoutout to Zaitoun in Scarborough, one of the best Broast, Kebabs and Ribs in GTA, they give lots and it's delicious). So I simply went up to one of the employees there and asked for some. He said that they can only put it on Shawarma plates. I said okay at first because I could see the gentlemen was terrified. But as I continued to eat, I realized how dry the meal is without a sauce. My wife saw my distaste and decided to ask as well. The employee asked her to bring up the plate, but by the time my wife did the female manager had come and sent the employee away. She was very rude towards my wife about the whole thing, but there were three other customers watching so eventually gave it to us. Very bad place. Only in business still because...
Read moreI am leaving a review because I think I have to. First of all, the food is so good. I dined here about 2 years ago when I used to work nearby. This review however, is about my experience with the food only. I used Skip to have it delivered which was solid 5/5. Early on since I was a kid back in India, I always wanted to try Afghan cuisine. When I landed in Canada, my cabbie was an Afghan guy who spent time in New Delhi in his young age and we spoke about Agra, Fatehpur Sikhri and Afghanistan. We spoke of food and politics and mundane things. So, when I got a chance to try the food I knew I had to try the Kabuli Pulao and it is absolutely divine. There's saffron, sweet carrots, raisins and cumin flavored rice with tender mutton/lamb which is called Quabuli Pulao. I loved the chicken tikka too. It was tender, portion size was impressive and felt fresh. If you're from India you should try the food expecting very modest spice levels and if you're from anywhere else you'll be just fine, I am sure. The rice is long grain, delicate and has a chew to it which I love. Food is aromatic and feels so healthy. 10/10 for me....
