First off, I want to say that I love the atmosphere. The inside is very well decorated and feels cozy. The patio is also very nice for when it’s warm out! Love that it’s dog friendly and I can bring my pup along.
However, I didn’t have the best experience. First off, I ordered an iced matcha with oat milk. It was the most bitter matcha I’ve ever had, and there was no sweetness at all. I paid $6.75 for a small cup (they only have one size) and a big chunk of it was ice. I did not feel it was worth that with the size and quality.
Secondly, I felt like the staff were being friendly and conversational with everyone around except for me. It was my first time going there and I wasn’t greeted the same way or asked how my day was. They just took my order and then proceeded to have conversations with the other customers. It felt like everyone knew each other and I was an outsider. Every customer should feel included and greeted.
I even had my dog with me and they don’t have whipped cream pup cups for dogs despite being dog friendly. This is not really a crucial point but I think it would be nice to have something available for dogs since a lot of other coffee spots do.
I really wanted to love my experience because I have heard a lot of people I know come here and like it, but it was a very below-average first experience. If I come back and try something else and have a better experience, I’d be happy to update my review, but this...
Read moreIf you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to drink a $6 cup of okay-ish coffee while sitting in what used to be a grease-stained shrine to carburetors, Jacked Up Coffee Roadting is your jam.
Nestled in a converted car repair shop (oil stains might be included free of charge), this place brings all the vibes of a high-octane pit stop—minus the energy. They roast their own beans, which sounds cool until you realize the only thing roasting today is your wallet.
We waltzed in ready for some good ol’ drip coffee, but alas, they were out. That’s right. A coffee shop. Out of coffee. It’s like going to a gas station and being told they only sell dreams now. We were forced to go for cappuccinos. Forgive them maybe because it was almost 5pm.
The barista, bless her soul, looked like she was one espresso shot away from a nap. She had the deadpan stare of someone who’s made one too many lattes and is spiritually trapped in a never-ending brunch rush. Friendly? Meh. Efficient? Kinda. Enthusiastic? Only about the end of her shift.
To be fair, the coffee I did get wasn’t bad. Just… the kind of good that makes you say, “Eh, that’s fine,” as you scroll through your banking app and mourn the $3 you’ll never see again.
But hey, if you’re into industrial chic, sleepy baristas, and slightly bougie beans, Jacked Up might just be your new overpriced haunt. Just bring your own drip. And possibly your...
Read moreNo coffee crawl in Whitby would be complete without a stop at Jacked up Coffee. It is quite amazing that an old garage could be turned into such an inviting and funky space to enjoy your favourite brew. The decor is funky, but the coffee is fantastic.
It is my understanding that they are roasting the coffee right on the premises and certainly the amazing Cortado I had suggests that the beans are freshly roasted and lovingly prepared. My companion had a decaf Cortado and said it was also excellent.
Those of you who follow my coffee reviews on Google review will know that I believe the glassware which is used for your coffee is an important aspect of the experience. Hereour Cortados were in a beautiful blue glass, which was exactly the right size to ensure proper proportions for the coffee.
The staff here are extremely knowledgable and friendly. There is fairly ample seating both inside and out and therefore, regardless of the weather time of year, there is absolutely no excuse not to stop in to Jacked up Coffee when...
