[with the added SALT from managements response, I’m gladly dropping my review……I’ve also updated my “quarter of the price comment if you’d like to go take a look ” :)- all meals has NEGATIVE sauce… so your burritos were dry, you added nor offered any guacamole .. the word didn’t come out the waitresses mouth.. , the fish was dry and the calamari was quiet mushy and nasty we had to eat it at the restaurant because we knew it wouldn’t make it home .. sucks…and you had no dessert options that were slightly arousing.. oh and our order was to go because my little one was giving trouble… :/….so P.S you being mad at my review is very public and obviously hasn’t helped your situation with no possibility of our family coming back now even if we were being slightly considerate to trying your food again after such a poor first impression. BAR BURRITO amazing, has tastier fish, saucier burritos.. MISS ME with your margarita and blue sky calamari (where were the tentacles) with FISH tacos and shrimp tacos for $48 and some change.. go see for yourself.]
first review for an “Authentic” Mexican restaurant
Sat down to eat on Sunday April 6th- The service was phenomenal for one, our server was so thorough and broke down the menu well! (She was very very patient)
We ordered the calamari, spicy shrimp tacos, surfer girl burrito with chicken, big sur fish tacos, and big d’s burrito platter with ground beef, also a strawberry mango margarita.
Dinner came to about $110 odd dollars I’m torn because everything was good but I’ve had just as good if not a better meal (for a quarter of the price) at your average burrito boys or fat bastards. :/ I’ve never been more honest.. (EXCLUDING THE average margarita and from frozen calamari)*
[I also worked at the flagship burrito boys downtown on Adelaide and nothing served here /the menu offered didn’t differ much or blow my socks off for the price paid and portion sizes offered]
Authentic not so much in my opinion and the dessert menu had A LOT of cheese cake .. it was underwhelming.
You have to ask for guac because it was non existent.. and that’s as authentic Mexican as you get.. serve it up! Plus the dishes need a pop of colour.
Loved the burrito chimichanga’d
It was an okay experience, the music also didn’t suit the whole beach Mexican vibes they were going for, the place was a...
Read moreService: don’t know if they can seat you and when they figure out they can, there is no prompt to follow them. no water refills (neither from the server or the owner(s)). servers and owners are unable to tend to more than one customer at a time. server cleaning table left cleaning supplies on table for quite awhile. we got our “ceviche” and the server took it back instantly and wouldn’t give us a reason when asked. She brought it back then explained the kitchen thought it went to the wrong table. when the server and owner asked if the food was good, we always responded with “meh, not great” and was ignored. They moved onto other tables and only engaged with the ones that liked the food. they choose to use frozen and costco style items for the simple, easy dishes (tortilla chips, shredded cheese, pico de gallo, ceviche)
Food: I added a picture of the ceviche. It had no lime/citrus, frozen shrimp and fish, drowned in guac, and had lettuce (?????). Described very differently on the site. tortilla chips are the same as the cineplex nachos and use grocery chain style tortillas for tacos. they use frozen/bagged pre-shredded cheese. frozen fish/seafood. use store bought pico de gallo. Enchilada Lapaz: garlic butter frozen shrimp, wrapped in grocery store bought tortilla, covered in pre-shredded cheese. Sided with the rice and a warm, garden salad with sweet dressing. You are not allowed to replace the refried beans with fries and still get rice.
Decor: light fixtures with no bulbs different temp lights in one corner/small area stale looking (fake?) plants. One covering the only nice mural.
There is a sign in the front letting people know they are short staffed (fair) and have supply chain issues (not my issue). Off the same highway exit, we know of 2 places we frequently buy fresh cheese. One of those places sells products from an authentic Mexican owned brand.
The owners don’t have the basics of serving and food down. That will always translate poorly into the serving staff. They can benefit from a professional coming in to make some small,...
Read moreThe good news is that this restaurant had lots of gluten free vegan options (I am not sure how safe they were with cross-contamination though) which is why I was really excited. The nachos, along with some other food items, were delicious and I left full with no shortage of food.
However, the cons outweighed the pros...
First off, this is NOT authentic Mexican. I have a boyfriend who just moved to Canada from Mexico 2 years ago and he said there is nothing authentic about this place - he hated more than any other food he has had in his life. The food clearly came out of a can and was NOT served as it shown on the menu. The soup was a different colour, did not come with the correct toppings, and had a watery taste. The food was not fresh, his beef was over-cooked and tasted like it had been made a few days ago and preserved.
We went with another couple who also had a negative experience. One of them is a cook and actually had to (politely) return his meal as his burrito only had beans in it and resembled dog food, and was NOT deep fried as it had asked it to be... then one of the workers came over and tried to prove her point and claim it was deep fried rather than apologizing ..not to mention it VERY clearly wasn't.
The refried beans came with a hardened outer shell as if they had been sitting out for a LONG time and also tasted like they came right out of a can.
Additionally, the cooks were NOT wearing masks (during a mask and vaccine mandate) and were EATING while cooking... it didn't feel right. There was also something on one of the spoons they provided us. The service was also VERY slow considering we were the only people there.
LASTLY, for four people it costed 250 dollars!!! We could have eaten at a high class restaurant or had grocery store meals for a month for that price! Instead, we got average-crumby food.
Overall, it was a negative experience and we will not be back. The food is not fresh, over-cooked, and definitely not...
