Wouldn't feed this garbage to a dying dog if given the chance. Once you're done wringing the grease out of the food you've really got essentially.... nothing. Tasteless, bland greasy garbage. Got the Halibut dinner for 3 a few nights back. HALIBUT... Got TWO pieces of halibut and the rest was HADDOCK. Bottom of the barrel HADDOCK. I've worked in the Fish & Chip industry, for over 40 years, had our own family owned restaurant down east before moving to Ontario from down east and have also owned a Capt. George and Halibut House franchise since moving to Ontario and I assure you, THESE GUYS ARE TRYING TO PASS OFF HADDOCK FOR HALIBUT. I saw they tried blaming another customer by saying the customer didn't know the difference, but perhaps the newer owners of this restaurant are confused. Not to mention you could damn near fill a swimming pool after wringing all the grease out of it. Complete garbage. Now the fries. Rock hard and completely inedible. We tried fixing it with some of the gravy we had ordered, but the gravy was just one giant ball of gelatin. It was slimy and also was no good to us. Calamari, don't know what the hell they classify as calamari but it's some weird paste like substance that we got. The calamari followed the rest of our meal right into the garbage and I'm surprised the garbage didn't reject it. The way these folks bite back on the reviews and lash out at their customers who are providing an honest review--as well as money in their pockets-- is completely unacceptable and nothing like the former owners would have done to hang on to customers. I don't see this place hanging around forever with this type of attitude and the disgusting slop they're serving out of there. FACT: Customer service and the way customers are treated is TERRIBLE. FACT: They either don't know the difference between halibut and haddock or they are purposely serving customers the lower end fish to save a couple of bucks and hoping customers simply won't notice. FACT: NOTHING like the previous owners. These guys have NO business in the Fish and Chip industry and should find an industry that is willing to tolerate their extreme lack of customer service and garbage food tastes.
If you do decide to go here and try it and you're going for take-out, be sure to take a plastic bag with you to line your car mats/seats with because the grease will be everywhere as it bleeds though the packaging. Also just maybe order haddock right off the bat because that's likely what you're going to end up with. That way it isn't a surprise if you DO know the difference and come to find that you're eating haddock rather than halibut. Also hope for no allergies to the haddock that they're trying to pass off as halibut. If you want DECENT and non-deceptive fish&chips served with a smile rather than a scowl, spend your hard earned money at the following: Hooksey's, Churchills, Jasper's, Schooner's or hit up a pub-like atmosphere such as Melanie Pringles, Charley Ronick's, Nookie's in Oshawa, Daniel Patrick's or the Portly Piper.
This place here isn't worth a dime and it stinks like sour fish when you walk in. Truly deserved no stars but, had to give at least one...
Read moreWhat in the world happened here and went wrong??? What used to be our go-to and number 1 F n’ C restaurant has gone completely down the drain!!! Ordered on Uber (usually we pick up from here) but being a rainy Sunday, decided to use uber. For reference, ordered a western omelette breakfast (requested bacon and cheese in the omelette IF POSSIBLE) 4 pieces of halibut and small chips, large gravy, 2 x homemade tartar sauce and chocolate milk. Came to $65.00. 20 minutes after the order was placed and the driver was almost at the restaurant to pick up the order, order got cancelled. Called the restaurant to find out why the order was cancelled and was told they didn’t have bacon, cheese or ham for the omelette so UBER cancelled the order. Restaurant didn’t.. they blamed Uber. So rather than calling to discuss the matter and ask if we wanted an alternative, they canceled the whole order 20 minutes in while the driver was almost there. Told us to reorder on uber again and order the cheese omelette and just to add bacon and mushrooms. So… placed the whole order again. Five minutes later I get a notification that my price was adjusted and increased because of the bacon on the omelette. Increased by $1.00 but still. It’s the principle. Whatever. I had no say in the matter. Uber driver (same guy) picked up the order and brought it to us over an hour after the initial order was placed (because of the cancellation BS and whatever other excuse). Wasn’t his fault b Got the food and it was 4 pieces of HADDOCK. Not halibut. Barely any fish in it, it was like eating battered air pockets. The omelette and potatoes were great. The fries were frozen fries tossed into a deep fryer. Homemade tartar sauce was like no name ranch or Caesar dressing… piss thin. Opened the container and it flew everywhere due to how runny it was. Paper bag it came in had grease RUNNING on the outside of it. Don’t know what happened but this place was always my go-to and I would recommend it to everyone. This was my boyfriend’s first time trying it and it was embarrassing after hyping this place up to him. I know everyone has a bad day… restaurants included… but my son ordered lunch earlier this week and it was the same thing. We chalked that day up to being a bad day. I’ll no longer recommend this restaurant to anyone and will be searching for a new F n’...
Read moreWe happened to visit this restaurant by random. It was because we just wanted to take our mom out for a walk. So, we drove around half an hour from Markham to Whitby. While touring around that city, we wanted to have afternoon tea. Therefore, we searched the Google map if any fish and chips restaurant were located nearby. It was under this situation that we chose this restaurant.
To our surprise, when we stepped into this restaurant, not one customer was found. Originally, we thought we had chosen a wrong one. However, its service was exceptionly good. For instance, our mom wanted to eat ice-cream, but we couldn't find in its menu. At first, the server was hesitasted about taking this order. After a short while, she came to us again and said yes. My mom was very happy about it. We then ordered 2 additional meals, namely its special offer of the day as well as one set of French toast. First of all, the Special included one large piece of fish and chips. It was freshly made, crispy, tasty and enough for 3 persons. Second, its French toast is also hot and baked up to the point. For us, it was especially delicious after adding a few drops of orange juice. Generally, we were highly satisfied at its food and service. At last, it costs us only a little more than $30 including 3 drinks and tax. Its value is much more than its price. This restaurant is sure a must-go place if you visit Whitby and want some tasty light meals to fill...
