The Gryphon Pub — Restaurant in Whitby

The Gryphon Pub is a wonderful gem in Whitby! My friends have been suggesting this place so I came here for dinner with my husband recently and we absolutely loved it. The service here is incredible as our waitress was very attentive, friendly and quick. She made some great recommendations and took the time to answer any questions.

As for the food, we shared the bruschetta flatbread and it was very good! The veggies were fresh, I would highly recommend. For our entrée, I had the ribs and my husband had the new york steak. The portions were great and everything was so delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes were my favourite, so good! My husband really loved the ribs too. There was plenty to share and have leftovers. It was only $5 more to get a full rack compared to the half, such a great deal! They have such an extensive menu with something for everyone along with plenty drink options. My husband loved that they have local craft on tap and his beer came ice cold. There are many specials going on throughout the week, will definitely be back on a Friday night for their $18 steak dinner. This was some of the most quality food I have ever had at a pub, a solid 10/10!

You can tell this place is loved by locals! Great food, specials, drinks and atmosphere here. They had good music going and great vibes inside. The owner seemed very friendly and genuine. The staff are all so kind and helpful. You can tell a lot of care has been put into this place. We love supporting small business and lucky for us the Gryphon Pub has just become our new go to. Overdue on this review: First visit was in mid July. A friend and myself went there, luckily on steak special night. We both had the steaks, and they arrived as ordered. For the price, it was well worth it. As I don't prefer fries much anymore, they substituted extra veggies, and did not upcharge.

The Guinness was poured well, and cold.

Service was friendly, and quick before and during the meal.

Time to update: another recent visit…on karaoke night. Service was good, food as usual good, but loud to the point we couldn’t have a conversation. Oh well unless the karaoke thing is your idea of fun, best avoid as it’s far too loud.

The only reason this review is not a full five, was there was only one waitress on, and the place was only 1/2 full. We waited better than 15 minutes for the bill, and then another 10 for her to get the machine. This is not her service fault, she was flying around the place. Not that impressed with the bar frist time I go there I get there start having a drink with a friend and being social talking and laughing just plan having fun. Then I come back in from having a smoke and the bouncer trys to throw me out and I'm like what wait what did I do. So then he' talks to waters and apperently it's an I'd thing. So that gets hashed out .we .I've tables my bf goes trying to order drinks and now shes saying they made a corporate call not to serve me because apperently I'm quite tipsy and was Rudy.
