Read moreThe young woman at the checkin needs to learn what customer service means. I called in for a reservation and asked for the patio. I was told there were no reservations for the patio, so I made a reservation for inside (no other option). I arrived quite early 45 mins and I was seated at a table at the back of the restaurant. I was not happy with this table and it was so loud inside it was hard to be heard. I asked the waitress if I could be relocated closer to the front and she said once seated they don’t normally relocate but she would ask, but this was not done. I asked how it might be possible to sit on the patio, and was then told there was a waiting list. Ummmmm why was this never mentioned since I wanted to be seated there and was willing to wait as I was very early anyways? I saw several tables with a ‘reserved’ sign inside at the front that sat empty while i waited, so I did not understand where my ‘reserved’ table was. There was also one and shortly after 2 empty tables in the patio.
My guest arrived and I suggested if we could not get a seat near the front or on the patio, we should just leave for a place that wanted our business as i was having no luck with getting a better table. I live locally and I support the local restaurants when it ISN'T summer and it’s dead in White Rock as well as summer. So we went to the front. my guest needs to walk with assistance and the hostess acted like we were the biggest nuisance. I asked how long a wait it would be for the patio since I had already been there 15 mins while looking at these empty tables at the front and on the patio. She wasn’t budging. Then a man walked in wearing a restaurant shirt and my guest asked if he worked there. He did and thankfully he got things sorted out for us after a brief wait and got us out on the patio as yet another table opened up. The original hostess walked ahead and just dropped menus on the table, and walked away not ever saying anything to us. She looked miserable and there was a definite attitude there that was not at all appreciated.
Our waitress arrived and she was beyond excellent. Great service, very friendly, good recommendations and turned our experience around. Her name Talia - she was awesome and I appreciated her by leaving a good tip. The man that assisted us - sorry I don’t have his name but thank you as well. OB is one of my preferred spots and I’ve been many times. The food was very good as always and the restsurant, the patio, the decor - all very nice. Next time I reserve or one of my guests reserves for me, we will be asking more questions and asking for a specific table since I now know they do reserve them inside near the patio. I’ll even arrive early to get on the wait list for the patio, but what I will NEVER deal with is a hostess that just wants to dig her heels in, be unhelpful and give a customer attitude on top of it. We don’t just pay for food….we pay for the experience. Customer service is as important as the...
Read moreWent to ocean beach last night with my 2 sisters. The female hostess, at the front with glasses, we asked if we could get a table inside, because it was cold and windy on the patio. She said no, gave no reason as to why. My sister than asked “we can go to patio now, and when a table frees up, can we move inside then?”. Her response was “no we don’t do table transfers”. That was the first I have ever heard of that. However, at that point we didn’t make anything of it. We sat on the patio and our server was lovely. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and got nachos as an appie to start. The wind was getting out of control and it was super cold. I thought randomly, and told my sister, “should we ask our server if we can go inside?”. We were planning to leave if she said no, as it was too cold. Our lovely server returned (after speaking to the hostess who never allowed us inside , and she said a table cleared up and she’ll get it ready for us).
At this point I was pretty annoyed at the hostess at the front, who adamantly told us no 2 times.
I read other reviews on here from certain people, and realized it’s the norm treatment here for ethnic Indian people.
This is the first time I have ever had this experience at an establishment. We had a good time inside , and I have nothing but good things to say about our 2 servers who we had throughout the night. But, as the night rolled on and I saw tables clearing up and more people being brought in, and I took a look around inside, and realized this is the type of establishment that is going for a certain vibe, and Indian people are not included in that.
I saw the manager leaving generic responses saying “sorry to hear about your experience, we will execute better next time”, to other reviewers complaining of the same thing. That is a very nonchalant response to people complaining about encountering racism.
I’m not expecting anything to come out of this review, as I seen the typical management response. But I am still leaving my review as last night was a super bizarre experience. Definitely wasn’t expecting this to be a thing in 2023, in surrey white rock of all places. I will never be returning to this establishment. However, I’m sure I won’t be missed.
Also, we realized there was 2 other tables freezing on patio of Indian people too. And my question is, why was the hostess adamant on keeping us outside? But then when our server asked to do the forbidden table transfer, why was that allowed? She wouldn’t let us do a table transfer, but she blindly allowed our server to bring her unknown...
