Cake Lab — Restaurant in Winnipeg

September 2025: Visited on Friday evening around 6pm and to say the service was abysmal would be an understatement. My child wanted the mango ice-cream and knowing how picky this child was, i asked the lady behind the counter (who had been ignoring us for a couple of mins) to give the child a taste of the Mango flavour. She literally pinched the ice-cream on the spoon(took quite an effort to do that believe me). My child tasted it but looked at me saying, I couldn’t taste anything, there was nothing on the spoon. I was giving her ( lady behind the counter benefit of doubt that maybe because a kid asked, so I asked for a taste for myself and she said no more taste in a very insulting way. I was confused. I then asked clearly (because obviously, i want to be proven wrong) ‘are you saying you dont allow people to taste ice cream before committing to a full cup?’ she said any other one but not the same flavour. I said well, he couldn’t taste it with what you gave him and so I would like to taste it myself as we only want Mango. I kid you not, she put a pinch, -pinch like pinch if salt- on the tip of the tip of the tiny ice cream spoon and gave that to me, -it was really insulting and at that point i told her to keep it and turned away. We were all confused but walked away. Even my child was confused by the lady’s attitude and asked if something was wrong (bless the innocence) . We were a family of four (3adults and a kid) and we all wanted ice cream but nope. My money was better off spent somewhere that I wont be treated like I’m begging for whatever and less than. Its ice cream for goodness sake.

All this while i was ignoring what looked like cross-contamination. She returned some of the icecream she was mixing on the table back to the container in the show glass. Cross-contamination be damned i guess. Make of this experience whatever you will and go there at your own...

This place is disgusting. Why do they allow there workers to come to work sick? This girl kept blowing her nose in the stall and it was absolutely sickening. If you want go ice cream go to Mc Donald’s because this place has different flavours but that doesn’t make up for the unsanitary conditions of there edible items. The cakes in the display fridge have sat for weeks in there. I come by occasionally to see a cake I’ve seen before from the previous week. The workers are rude while one of them watches a show full blast and the other is also accomplishing nothing. Whom ever the manager is clearly does not know how to be a manager let alone the basics of food and safety. There ice cream portion? Absolutely heinous. I’m paying 7.22 after tax for a tiny portion of ice cream the size of Ben and Jerry’s mini tub which I can purchase for 3 at shoppers. Don’t waste your time and money here. taste was alright, the cakes look like they have been sitting there since the dawn of time, i like the designs but i would pass by a lot since i live close and see the same cake on display in the same position for weeks on end. its disgusting and i assume the cakes are a dairy base which shouldn't last that long even with refrigeration. i also fear there sanitation practices since i see a lot of them on there phones a lot. they should be washing there hands if they are using there phone and serving food if that...
