Currently they have omakase. Starts at $80, and goes to $120, 6 course by chefs choice. You need to book a day in advance. I would not recommend the $120 omakase. We did it with a group of friends. There were some highlights such as real wasabi, but there were also some low points like the lobster tempura mixed in with other seafood where it was spongy and not crispy. I am comparing it to other Omaskases that I have had (not in the city). As the other cities have higher property taxes, I would think the offerings should be on par even though we are land locked. There were a few highlights, so unless you have a lot of money to blow, I'd suggest skipping this and going to the next thing which is the happy hour. I'm not taking a star away as I still feel this is a great restaurant, but I just can't imagine why you would choose to go here for it. The chef did not interact with us at all. At other places, the nigiri is made individually, plated immediately and served. Here, it was pre plated as a group and not every piece was delicious.

The other thing they have is a happy hour menu right now. Goes from 5pm-6pm daily as well as 9pm to close on Friday and Saturday. This is a good deal and many options here are absolutely delicious. Try the raw octopus as the sauce has pickled real wasabi.

The edokko special makunouchi bento is one of my favorite things to order. The bentos are beautiful and trick the eye into thinking you have a lot more quantity wise than you are actually eating. I have minor issues with this restaurant... But nothing so big that I didn't give it a 5 star rating due to the food. The offerings here stand out more than most of the other Korean run sushi restaurants. Not everything is perfected here. The California roll that came with the noodles we ordered was miss shaped. Service was friendly and attentive, but not as professional as a few of the other premiere sushi restaurants in the city. This could be a hit and miss situation as the other time we came the servers were better. However consistency is key and has proven that it was not from this visit. The value and food though remained constant which is why it still retained it's 5 stars. (I do adjust my ratings if I feel it's changed and will edit the review accordingly) If you get served by Masa himself I'm told it's a treat. He is much more rigid in his standards.

About the tan tan mein. Don't do it. There are more flavorful versions elsewhere in the city. The okonomayaki was fine. The curry had a slimier texture. I thought the taste was fine. So far the vegetarian ramen tastes the best out of their noodle selection. It has a smooth, almost milky taste. I'm sure it's actually the miso and it's a good one.

They have set dinners which are an ok deal. The amount of food isn't necessarily a lot, but the sushi and sashimi dinner I received had good quality fish, the more expensive cuts as opposed to just all the cheapest. There was even a piece of uni.

This is still my number one choice for Japanese restaurant in the city...

Very Poor Customer Service - This was our 2nd time to Izakaya Edokko. The 1st visit was an excellent experience, which is why we came back for another try.

Unfortunately, the service we received from the serving person and management on this occasion was terrible.

The serving person told us about a Dinner Special of Blue Fish Tuna sashimi at $7 a piece. It was a higher quality sashimi and warrants a higher price, but we refused it. The serving person then made a suggestion of Fatty Tuna Toro Sashimi Nigiri, but she would order it without the rice, claiming it would cost less. How could we refuse? So we agreed to this.

We received 5 pieces of what we thought was Fatty Tuna Toro sashimi...and it was delicious.

However, when the bill came, we saw that she had tried to bill us $35.00 for the Dinner Special of 5 pieces of the Blue Fish Tuna Sashimi at $7.00 a piece. It was marked on the bill as Blue Fish Tuna Sashimi, not the Fatty Tuna Toro.

We told the serving person about the 'error' on our bill. We stated that we were only going to pay for the Fatty Tuna Toro that we originally ordered. She left to talk to Management, came back and told us that she thought we ordered it. We reminded her about the conversation she had with us regarding this item before ordering.

She left again to talk to Management. When she came back, she admitted to making the ordering mistake, but claimed that Management would only deduct 20% off the $35.00. She also claimed that Management would dock her pay for the error made.

This entire conversation went on in front of other customers who could hear the everything. We found this very embarrassing and unprofessional.

In hindsight, we should have insisted on only paying 50% of the $35.00, as we did eat it all, but the ordering error was the Serving person's. We paid the bill, with just the 20% discount on wrongly billed item.

We will never return to patronize this establishment - due to the poor customer service and also how Management handled this situation. While the food here was good, it is not the only Japanese food restaurant...

What a fantastic restaurant for authentic sushi. We had heard good reviews from friends. They have increased their seating to 5 tables from 2 tables with moving their grocery section to further back in the building. They also mentioned that the hours have recently changed - they are open later on certain days - I had posted a photo earlier today with the new hours. The Miso soup was delicious - it contained cooked large white onions which was new to me in a Miso soup. Tuna goma-ae is a favorite of ours - we loved the flavour of this one. Assorted Sashimi 15 pieces was perfect - we had salmon, fatty tuna, yellowfin tuna, surf crab, scallops, and tako (octupus). 2 different rolls we ordered were avocado and salmon, and avocado by itself. Excellent rolls. They provided a boiled water carafe so we could top up the loose leaf green tea pot at any time. Excellent cuts of sashimi, and the presentation was very good. We would totally recommend this place if you enjoy sushi. The grocery section has several cuts of salmon and tuna and other fish that you could potentially prepare at home for sashimi. Lots of Japanese foods available for purchase. We will go again. Staff were friendly and attentive. There are a few parking spots in the parking lot, and street parking is...

A humble local Japanese restaurant. They have dining area as well as a small grocery section in the back of the restaurant. I enjoyed my experience there. I phoned and made a reservation before going there because I knew there wasn’t too many tables available. The waitress looked after all customers and you don’t feel neglected at all. The food was pretty decent considered we’re in Winnipeg. We order the tuna tataki as well as deluxe chirashi for our supper. I thought the tuna tataki was just a tid bit over-grilled. But otherwise it’s the sauce and lemon juice elevated the dish well and it was plated nicely. The deluxe chirashi came with the miso soup, salad as well as a side dish. I mean the variety of sashimi was better than what I was expected. I can’t compare the freshness of sashimi to what’s in Japan, but I think it does make me feel satisfied. Would definitely come dine again.
