When considering cost and current reviews - Underwhelming. Service was equally the same - after asking me if I needed a hand with the wine list, I was told the bottle I was inquiring about would taste like “the grapes that were listed”. Maybe my communication was poor, but that didn’t help me. The other staff member had inaccurate views about what they were serving, telling me a petite tender was also called a “butchers cut”… a petite tender and and hanger are not the same cut. Please reference a butchery chart or consult with your kitchen staff before service. Having serving staff try to tell me I’m wrong about something I’ve spent more than my fair share of time around left a really bad taste in my mouth (see what I did there)…. but seriously a major turn off when staff try to pull that.
The beet salad was the best dish our table tried. The beets were grilled, the cornmeal croutons are great with the almond ricotta. Solid spring salad!
Staff was accommodating with portions for sharing - we ordered five apps and four entrees for a table of four… something we ordered only came with three portions typically, they adjusted and brought four instead. I appreciated that.
Everyone’s entree came with the same vegetables, which again, at this price point and considering the reviews, was an underwhelming surprise. I expect that with a catered lunch, but not with a $50 plate at dinner. My bison entree was lacking in salinity and my smashed potatoes were oily. My family members grass-fed ribeye was 1/2 sinew (at least 4oz) leading me to believe it was cut far to much into the chuck side. Something typical of local butchery, but I’d expect better eyes on whoever’s cutting the steaks coming out of a professional kitchen.
More than most, I understand that taste is subjective; but given my palate,...
Read moreI’ve dined at Fusion Grill multiple times with friends and family, food and service has always been good.
My girlfriend and I were trying to make a reservation at the restaurant tonight for a friend of ours birthday prior to an event we are all attending later on in the evening. An employee took our call and we asked if we could book a reservation for a group of people (8-10 people) for drinks and appetizers. Before the employee asked how large our group size was, he responded “we are not that type of restaurant, we are a fine dining restaurant”. We were both a bit taken back from this response, and he goes on and asks “how large is your group?”, and we proceed to tell him 8-10 people, in which he informed the restaurant would not be able to accommodate our group and proceeded to hang up the phone without saying anything else.
I completely understand some restaurants not being able to accommodate larger group sizes or maybe wanting a quieter setting and atmosphere for its guests, but the response we received was completely unprofessional and disrespectful and could’ve been handled and communicated differently. I don’t know if the response “we are a fine dining restaurant” was a dig because he thought we were young and haven’t gone out before, but I’ve been to 529 Wellington, Hy’s, Passero, The Gates with clients and larger groups of friends and family when we just had drinks and appetizers and those restaurants were more than happy to accommodate us.
Again, enjoy the food and setting at Fusion Grill, but the arrogant response we received today makes me not want to go back. Hopefully the staff going forward are a bit more considerate and polite towards its...
Read moreThis remains our favourite destination for a reliably enjoyable, elevated dining experience in Winnipeg.
The service at Fusion Grill is consistently the best in the city. We are always made to feel very welcome here, as if we are special guests, and we have appreciated witnessing this exceptional level of personalized hospitality extended at every table. Their cocktails are fabulous, the wine recommendations are perfect, our cutlery is carefully replaced for every course, our water and wine glasses are filled before we ever notice they are low, and every aspect of service is performed with uncommon warmth, care and pride.
And then there is the phenomenal food, of course! Their entire menu is created from (and regularly updated with) locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, so this is an ideal place to appreciate the delicious food of Manitoba (and Canada) expertly prepared, combined, and enhanced with complex flavours. It doesn’t matter what we order; every dish we’ve tried on the menu over the years has been outstanding and much-loved.
This space is always noticeably clean with a comforting, candle-lit atmosphere that feels like an escape from the everyday…
These are the many reasons why Fusion Grill is the dinner destination where we bring out-of-town guests, and to which we buy friends and family gift certificates so they can experience it, too. We are grateful to have such a reliably wonderful place to come back to and to support with both our dollars and good word-of-mouth...
