Koya Japan — Restaurant in Winnipeg

This rating might be to high. one of my dishes were made incorrectly?. It was still good, but also felt like it didn't belong.. it didn't show pickled carrots on pork belly boa buns in the picture in store menu display and doesn't mention carrots on the ordering site. I think i would have enjoyed it even more if it was made correctly.

I felt very rushed when placing my order and missed out on a $2 combo drink because she walked away for a moment after asking about drinks, throwing me off. They didn't try to upsell the sumo size(shrimp chicken stir fry rice,), I was kind of shocked with the small portion and what I paid... they have 3 other Rice places, and koya is by far the least amount.

I was bothered by how they tried to get me to leave before I got my food, they don't have a buzzer, and if a similar dish it could cause confusion as we almost swiped a different customers dish because she wasn't there and it was very similar to what we ordered, like wave them down before putting out what they got, instead we got confused. After 1 of our dishes were out, she told us to go sit down 5 more mins for my food, I insisted on waiting for my food... she still pleaded a couple more times before I walked away because it was getting weird, so I just watched, from the table my partner already brought his dish.

As much as her not so great servicing skills and less Rice than expected, I did enjoy the taste of everything, I will be back... you have to make sure to ask for utensils and soysause because it might...

Asked for a lid for food but was told to come back after I ate a bit of it. Poor customer service. When asked why, the owner said she didn’t believe I needed one and that some people don’t need lids for their food. I mean regardless if I finish my food or need to take left overs home I feel like I shouldn’t have to prove that I need a lid. If I could I’d give them 0 stars. I ordered the noodle soup, container barely had noodles or shrimp. Tasted water with no flavour. Poor portion and poor taste. I would avoid THIS Koya. The food taste good but they’re so stingy with the amount they give you. They actually picked the broccoli out when too many pieces went on the grill. They make sure you’re not getting more than one piece unless you order Sumo size then you get two pieces. If you’ve ever been to Koya at Kildonan Place mall you’ll notice a big difference in the amount of food get there. Very generous serving sizes at KP.
