Over the last five years I’ve been eating and trying new things at this bakery, I can say it’s hit or miss with a lot of their pastries and baked goods. Their signature baguettes are excellent quality, however their variety croissants, tartes, eclairs, and other baked goods can be hit or miss. I’ve tried dozens of their pastries over the years and they can be a problem with your choice of baked goods (excl. baguettes and plain bread items) nearly half of the time. The pastries can be overly sweet, underbaked, lacking in their specified flavour (eg. mocha, dark chocolate). There’s a few instances where I’ve received croissants that were so doughy in the middle, and other times they’ve been dry. Consistency is lacking.

It’s definitely not a bakery I’d recommend going to, which is a shame that we have such little establishments in St. Boniface.

On the other hand, their customer service was nothing ever special or warm. Usually teens/young women working the front counter and have a lack of friendliness. Again, this has been going on for years so I’m not surprised anymore.

As for the atmosphere of the bakery, it’s not a place that you can sit at for an hour or two, cheap metal tables and chairs and a...

No doubt in my mind that La Belle Baguette is THE best place for pastries in the province. They’re made fresh, have full flavors and perfect textures, and come presented as you would fine jewelry in beautiful blue and gold boxes. If you really want to impress someone or show thanks beyond just the typical box of Timbits… this is at least a couple levels beyond that. Not only are you going to an independent bake shop, you are going to THE gold standard. Everything is amazing, and I’d recommend starting with a sweet pastry. Probably one of the croissants with a flavor that fits your fancy. Though they’re a bit expensive (~$5 per item), it’s well worth it. Seating options are present, but there’s not much more to say. Service is fast and friendly. Overall, this is my new go-to bake shop for gifts or when I want a no-compromises, no-gambles...

Well, the food quality here is stellar, absolutely top notch and honestly for what you're getting, the prices are reasonable. Now, my reason for not ranking this higher are two fold. Let me set the sence, I was there at 930 on a Saturday morning and the place was sold out of baguettes. Think about that for a second, "the beautiful baguette" was out of baguettes pretty early I to the day. Now, I can appreciate based on the other things I tried these must be amazing baguettes, but they're in the effing name of the place. That's like KFC running out of C! The other point I think this place could improve is in the flow of customers, and this speaks more to the popularity of this place. But if they had one staffer picked orders and a second working the till, it could potentially...

I live in Minnesota, but I fully intend on making a trip back to Winnipeg just to get my hands on another almond croissant. It was superb. Because my family of 3 is ambitious when it comes to pastries, we tried the: plain croissant, almond croissant, Nutella croissant, maple tart, blueberry danish, carmel roll, and coffee. A lot, I know, but — we walked a few miles to/from the bakery and knew this would be a highlight of our first trip to Winnipeg (it was indeed a highlight). Everything was so good and our anticipation was so high that I forgot to get ā€œbeforeā€ pics. Whoops. The croissants were just right, the maple tart had that pure, Canadian maple taste, and the coffee was smooth. We will be back and we fully intend to try sandwiches for lunch next time.

Sad I didn't know about this bakery when I lived in Winnipeg! A quick drive from our downtown accommodation, we were warmly welcomed by the guy behind the counter. We tried the bannock breakfast sandwich along with a coffee for our breakfast which we both enjoyed. The bannock was nice and moist and the sausage flavorful. We also took chocolate filled croissants to go for an afternoon snack and were a bit sad since it must have been the Nutella one we saw pictured and wanted (next visit). It was perfectly flakey and tasty though! Tried stopping in the next day for the rainbow croissants but they were already sold out. If you don't see what you're looking for, ask as they often would go to the back and get it!
