There are underrated places, there are hidden places and then there are places that are SO UNDER THE RADAR but so good that you want to keep it that way but you want as many people to try the food and the place.
Mae Sunee literally translates to Mother's Good thing - But I think it means mothers love or our mothers food and so true the place, the vibe and the food is absolutely on point and on the spot. It's one of the best THAI spots in the city, if you have to trek from southdale or transcona north to be here, you should bring along people and company and surprise them with the place and food.
The place is really neat and clean and tastefully decorated. The food tastes fresh and the ingredients are fresh and top notch. The owner and her family that runs the place are very lovely people and know how to balance familial with professional set up. Its a spot you want to come to again and again.
Just wish them the best and will contribute to their wealth being...
Read moreI really, REALLY wanted to like this place more. It is quaint, the servers/owners are sweet, and it is very close to me. However, the portions were incredibly small. The flavours were good. Repeatable, even. But the value just was not there. My pad thai was very dry, and the Massaman was kinda gluggy and only 1/2 of a container. Crispy pork was overdone, so not crispy but inedibly solid. I don’t mind paying for rice as long as I know that it’s not included with the dish. Perhaps, but I’ve definitely had better thai food in Winnipeg at double the size for the same price. I also had twice asked for low heat for this order so that I’d have a baseline for future orders, but was misunderstood/misheard twice and instead it was prepared with zero spice and containers of chili/oil was given on the side. But it doesn’t matter. Future orders not...

Papaya Salad was so fresh and so good. We didn't add any chilies to this dish as we were getting other ones with spice.
Pork Larb Salad has a nice kick to it with the chili peppers. The sauce and veggies balanced everything out.
Pineapple Red Curry with Mussels - the broth was so flavorful and the chunks of pineapple added a touch of sweetness. The mussels were very small, but there were still quite a bit in there.
Red Curry with Beef - Broth was very flavorful with a little kick, lots of veggies and beef. I would probably add a little bit more spice next time to kick it up for me. I like my sauces thicker, this one was thinner - more like a soup but I didn't mind that at all.
Portion sizes were good. We had some leftovers...
