Pre-pandemic review. Food was good, prices for some things good, others a bit over-priced. Staff was rude. I went with some friends thinking we were going to be taking out, but learned only after ordering that we were eating in. I ordered for takeout, and the person at the register said nothing about there being a fee for eating in (which isn't super unreasonable considering I said takeout), but then later made a scene calling me out from afar and approaching me saying that I had to leave or pay the eat-in fee while I was sat at the table with my friends with an cold, accusational tone as though I was stealing or something. It was humiliating. I apologized and said that I didn't know, but they rolled their eyes and were really condescending and made it clear that they viewed me with utter contempt despite me genuinely having no idea about their policy (having never been there before and them not telling me about it- if there was a sign it wasn't a clear one and they still should have assumed each customer that isn't a regular is new and mentioned it). I would have gone home had I not already ordered (and being a teenage girl with 0 self esteem, didn't want to make people any angrier than they already were; nowadays I would have tried to stand up for myself). I've also worked in the industry and get how customers can be difficult at times, but I was in no way combatative, yet they treated me in a way I wouldn't even treat the most obnoxious customer. I was a senior at a near-by school and it was my first and last time going there. Sad, considering most joints in that area are some of the...
Read moreNew York Burgers is a nice little independent operation that's worth taking a look at if you're in the area. Food isn't too expensive, and it tastes pretty good for what you get, you can usually have a nice meal for around $10. Canned drinks though, $1.95, yikes. I understand they have to make a profit somewhere, but that's quite an obscene markup. Even $1.50 would be much better. Staff members are pretty good and keep things flowing really smoothly amongst themselves. Their debit reader only supports chip & PIN and not NFC which is a little unfortunate but understandable given its age. It is as small as it looks from the outside, but even during lunch you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding a seat. And they also have a TouchTunes jukebox which is neat if being a DJ at an independent burger place is up your alley (or if you like using the one that Alfie's has just up the street on Keewatin). Being on SkipTheDishes is a nice bonus too and it seems to pay off for them, one time I noticed courier after courier coming in to pick up orders. Check it out, you'll probably find something...
Read moreFantastic home made burgers and home made cut fries. Everything from the bun and burger to the toppings was fresh and fantastic. Food is made fresh after you order. I became a regular customer after my first visit there. I have their "Fat Boy" burger with fries every time I go there... it's a big tasty meal. You won't leave hungry!! Their onion rings are excellent too. I have not tried out any of their other menu items.
"Fat boy" burgers are what Winnipegers call a hamburger with chili added to the toppings. I never heard of a "Fat Boy" burger until I came to Winnipeg. You order your food at the counter and they call you went it's ready. Seating can be a bit hard to come by if they're really busy. Obviously it's a popular place. Washrooms are one person at a time and are lockable. The washrooms have always been very clean and very well kept every time I've used them. If you want a hamburger and fries meal better than most of the big chains can deliver then this is the...
