Olympia Diner Olympia Diner is a wonderful Greek restaurant on Portage Avenue West. There is parking in behind the restaurant and on the nearby streets. The entrance is on Portage Avenue. You can make reservations or show up at the door. We arrived on a Friday night just as the dinner rush was finishing. I would recomend a reservations around meal time or are in a group. The staff was super friendly. We got our drinks promptly and our starter (calamari) quicker than expected. The calamari was excellent but the tzatziki sauce was brilliant. The breading on the tender calamari was light and fresh. The fresh lemon and tzatziki complimented and didn't over power the fresh calamari. Our main dishes were the Lamb souvlaki with lemon potatoes and veggies and the Greek Platter that had Greek Salad, lemon potatoes, rice, chicken souvlaki, tzatziki and spanakopita also it had lasagna. The lemon potatoes tasted good, well flavoured, tender but grilled justvenough not to be soft. The veggies we got were beans and they were buttery and delicious. The rice was good but not extraordinary. The Greek salad had a tasty dry feta cheese and one very tasty olive (with pit). The tzatziki sauce was the same great sauce that we had with the calamari. The chicken souvlaki was tender and juicy and tasted great. The lamb souvlaki was superb. It was seasoned to perfection and was tender and juicy. The lasagna was okay and the spanakopita had a great phyllo exterior was crispy and buttery. The filling was kind of muddled. The portions here are large and very good. The staff is attentive and friendly. We will be back.

I've known about this place forever and for some reason had never tried it until today, my 29th birthday. Let's start with them accommodating a party of 10, they were extremely friendly and helpful with seating the kids and bringing us everything we needed. Now let's talk about the food.. I'm a big guy, who normally doesn't like trying new places due to fear of high prices and low quantity, I hate leaving somewhere hungry, well.. thats not the case here, I dont think anyone actually finished their food besides me and I only finished because I got the "Frank" burger and it stated that it was a challenge.. I can honestly say I've never eaten that much in my entire life and at that point didnt think I was making it to my 30th birthday!! Haha. The food quality was amazing and the staff were outstanding. I'd give 10 stars if I could. If you're like me and have never given this place a shot, take my word and go on down. You will be pleasantly suprised

We visited Olympia Diner for the first time to celebrate Mother’s Day the day before. The food was good, and the portions were generous. Unfortunately, the service didn’t meet expectations — the tall server on duty (11:30 am) didn’t acknowledge us as we waited to be seated, answered the phone first without greeting us or asking us to wait, and wasn’t friendly or welcoming throughout but warm and smiling to other customers. We also noticed small oversights that impacted the experience. For example, the ketchup bottle handed to us still had the paper seal under the cap, which we only discovered while trying to squeeze it. The menu also had spelling mistake, “Caberent” instead of “Cabernet.” These little things are minor, but they add up and reflect a lack of attention to detail, become noticeable when service is poor. The food shows promise, but with better service and a bit more care, the overall experience could be much better.

I just had the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE ever and it will be the ABSOLUTE last time we ever order from there. I have digestive issues and allergies, so I ordered a chicken pita with no tomato and the green beans for veggies and I'm very specific with my order. We get our order home and my chicken pita has tons of tomato in it and I have fries instead of green beans. I called the 1st time and the girl I talked to said it was punched in wrong and that's why I got fries. She said she can have a driver come out or put a credit for a side order of veggies for next time. I called the 2nd time and told the same girl that my chicken pita came with tomatoes and she said she'll get a manager. The manager comes on the phone and I tell her my order is wrong and gives the excuses that the restaurant is busy and it's loud in there and that it was a kitchen error on my chicken pita. Are you kidding me, seriously? Then she says, I'm going to get the owner, so he comes on the phone and says 'oh I hear your order is wrong', I say yes it is and he says 'oh sometimes we get things wrong'. I said well, this isn't the 1st time that my order has been wrong, so we didn't order from you guys for a few months and we decided today that we would try again, but you can put a full credit and maybe in 6 months I'll decide if I want to try again and the ignorant owner, says, 'yes that sounds good' and then hangs up on me.

The 1st time I called, it should of been an automatic credit for a full dinner and not just a bullshit credit for a side of veggies.

Obviously this restaurant does not care about it's customers. Absolutely terrible customer service all...

You can debate that giving a 1 star on food isn’t fair since I never ate it, but the food never made it to my table. We were sat down on the patio at 5:15, there was only one group sat before us. More people were brought out over time and it wasn’t until all the tables outside were full did they bring out water for anyone.

When they brought out the water, they didn’t bother asking us for any additional drink orders and it was some time before they came back. Our orders were a burger and the chicken souvlaki. We waited over 30 minutes without having anything brought out or a server check in on us, when they did it was just to top up our water again.

By time the server got to us, she had maybe 1/4 cup of water left in the pitcher and poured it into my glass. She said she would be right back and we never saw her again.

We waited, and waited, and saw people that were seated inside just 5 minutes before us leaving as they already ate their food and paid. Other guests out on the patio that were sat after us also had their food brought out. We had to sit there and watch as everyone around us, most of them arriving after us got through most of their food. By time it was 6:15 we both decided it wasn’t worth it anymore and walked out.

I will NEVER go back to this place again, if there was a problem in the back end that would’ve been fine but at no point did anyone come out to say anything to us about any complications. The icing on the cake really was being poured barely any water, being told they’d be right back with more, then never bringing any.

I’ll be sure to tell all my friends and family of this experience so that they never go back...

I rarely post negative reviews, and always try to find the positive in an underwhelming dining experience. But when you're a neighborhood institution, I believe the owners and management need all forms of feedback to ensure quality and consistency. I'm by no means a regular, but I've been eating at Olympia on occasion since the early 2000's. They can be a little hit and miss, but generally can be counted on for a satisfying meal. This evening I ordered the Keftedes (meatballs). The first one I cut into, I noticed the meat was very pink. You can have some pink if the temp is right, but I immediately touched it and it was completely cold and felt uncooked to the touch. At he very least a kitchen needs to prepare food safely. I sent it back, citing why. The server felt bad and asked if they could make it again. I was already turned off and politely declined. I didn't order anything else. If the glass of wine I ordered had been decent, it may have saved my overall satisfaction with my visit but it tasted like the bottom of a box wine that had been open for several weeks. In the end, they brought me the bill for everything, minus the Keftedes. I am not looking for a handout, but if I was the manager on staff that evening I would of at the very least comp'd the wine and potentially the appy (calamari, which was done much less good than the last time I ate there), if not the entire meal. Olympia is a St.James institution and has passed on to new owners in recent years as far as I know. I still like this place but feel like tonight showed that there is a lack of management ensuring the overall quality of their patron's visits to this...
