This place is definitely the spot to go to if you want quality Bingsu and I' only referring to their Bingsu (Snow) as that's what they specialize in. I'm seeing complaints on price and what people don't keep in mind is the work put behind making their desserts. They make this stuff as it's ordered! It's not premade and kept in a freezer. If you want mass-produced premade desserts which are then heated up, go elsewhere. Everyone has a different opinion on what they're willing to pay to please their palette so I find it unfair to see reviews from people who probably frequent McDonalds, BDI or DQ ice-cream, then come here only to complain about prices.
Their customer service has been great literally everytime I've gone there with my wife and believe me, we've been there atleast 20+ times since opening. It does get very busy during the evening but I like how David (owner) has organized it so that orders will only be taken when seats are available and that there's no spot saving for customers that haven't ordered. You can't blame the restaurant for having too many customers and being too busy. I've seen some walk in when it was jam packed and take an empty round table of 4 which is unfair to the ordering and in line customers so implementing that "rule" controls the flow of the place. That being said, coming with a big group (6+) would make it hard so be prepared to wait especially when it's busy.
They have a niche that no one else can offer and that's why they have that kind of following. Seeing as now they'll be opening a second location, the traffic should die a bit in their Kenaston spot so that should please some people who are worried about the busyness of the place.
My personal favorite would be the Mango or Strawberry Snow and my wife's would be the Tiramisu. They also just introduced their Honeybread which is delicious! I will admit it's expensive but I'm willing to pay for it.
I'm glad for their success and hope to see them...
Read moreI went here with my partner. We had no idea what milk flakes were and we were at the Mongo’s in the area, so this place intrigued us. Service is fast, and the atmosphere is nice. The walls and tables are all white but it’s not a white void like the kind you’d see on HGTV or in a McMansion. The bathroom is a single stall, and it’s surprisingly nice. It’s not cheap as it was over $30 for the two of us. There’s a good selection of desserts, such as Snow, drinks, specialty coffees, macarons, bubble tea and cakes. Some stuff on their store isn’t on their website and they even have a few savoury options.
Milk flakes is exactly what it sounds like- frozen milk but in crystal form. I got the Tiramisu snow, which was tasty and filling. I had a medium and I could barely finish mine. The portions are quite generous, as I got a full slice of Tiramisu, on top of the chocolate sauce and espresso. Be careful, as it’s messy and make sure you pour the espresso that comes with it in the bottom of the bowl, not the top or else it will spill and make a mess.
My partner got the crepe cake. It looks pretty, as it’s layers and layers of different coloured crepes, but you need to stay away from this thing like your life depends on it. It’s oddly chewy and tastes like nothing. We both found the texture to be a little off-putting. The weirdest part is that the frosting holding it all together is entirely flavourless. They don’t give you any sauces for it either. We even asked and they didn’t give us anything. Don’t let the crepe cake tempt you with its rainbow allure, you will be disappointed.
My partner got a bubble tea to make up for their disappointing dessert and it was… not good. They didn’t mix it enough, so it was...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place. Its because I've had "snow" or Taiwanese shaved ice elsewhere that I found it hard. I know its Korean, but its pretty much the same as Taiwanese shaved ice that i had in Vancouver. The prices for a medium are very very high ($13). It was much cheaper in Vancouver. If you order a large then the price becomes acceptable ($17), but that pretty much guarantees you need a friend to go with you (Well if you have a large appetite maybe not, but $15 for a single dessert isn't common in Winnipeg). If you want to get a beautiful instagram picture of something you can't get anywhere else yet in Winnipeg, yes go buy yourself one. Does it taste good? Some yes. I didn't like the mango though on my last visit. I actually left most of the mango uneaten. Is it worth the money? Not if its a medium, maybe if its a large. Will it make a pretty picture? Yes I really do hope they change their prices for their medium in the future, but I doubt it as they are ridiculously busy. We waited 50 minutes from the time we walked in, to ordering to getting it the first time we went. We were one of the lucky ones that got a seat. Many other people had to stand around. They did seem very slow with their delivery originally. (In Vancouver it was very quick) The last time I went it wasn't very busy and wait times were more acceptable, but it still took longer than in yvr. The rating remains at 3 stars. I am curious if they will change as there is new...
