Hooray, another Popeyes east of the Red! I thought that this would be even smaller than the other locations in the city but I was very happy to be proven wrong, this is certainly the biggest yet. If you were disappointed about the Henderson location not having a drive-thru, you're in luck with Regent as it does have one. Because of 3/11 there wasn't much of an opening week crowd. However, the drive-thru can be Sterling Lyon levels of bad as far as lineups go, and I suspect it'll stay that way for several weeks, so be aware of that if that's the way you want to go. Food and portion sizes are just as good as the Henderson location, and one time I even saw a blue shirt from there doing things here too. One extra bonus, this location is open to 11 PM, though I'm not sure if that's temporary as it seemed to be with the Portage location which went to 10 PM after a while.
July 2020 edit: after a couple months a few oddities have developed that force me to take a star off; in particular the circulation of Scientology publications (no thanks I don't want to join your cult) and a newly developed aversion to American Express cards as others have recently pointed out with a "NO AMEX" label on top of the card reader, in spite of the reader's firmware still displaying its logo. While the latter doesn't affect me personally, it may affect you. If the other locations in the city can take them just fine, why can't this one?
September 2020 edit: I'm maintaining the 4 stars for now, but I can confirm their edit of their response to this review that the weariness of American Express cards has since disappeared. No other oddities of note since July, speed continues to not remain an issue, and it still closes later at 11.
January 2021 edit: I've decided to restore the 5th star on account of continued excellent service. A note I do want to mention that I've neglected to previously, if you've got a large vehicle like a pickup with a longbox, you'll want to be aware that it might be a bit tough to take the corner up to the drive-thru window. Even an SUV may have some trouble getting close enough to it. Just an observation, not much can be done...
Read moreI was really disappointed in my order tonight. I ordered their BOGO 6 piece boneless wings, with a 2 litre of diet coke, an order of fries, a few sauces and an apple pie. The order arrived with a regular coke (not diet), no fries, and the chicken seemed quite old. I am a diabetic and cannot have regular coke so I was upset and called the store. Initially, the staff could not understand me and asked me to repeat myself about 5 times. Which only escalated my frustration. Eventually they handed the phone over to the manager, who seemed to have issues understanding me as well but eventually she told me they never have 2 litre bottles of diet coke. Then perhaps take it off the menu and don't allow people to order it? Anyways a bunch of repeating myself later...she said I could have a free pop for next time. Which made no sense to me. I let it go and waited for the order to come and sure enough, missing fries and cold old chicken. I called back again. More communication issues before finally being passed to the manager. I was informed the new staff had made mistakes and they would talk to door dash about refunding my order. This was a stressful and experience because the communication was nearly non existent. The manager explained that the new staff is new to Canada. If they cannot communicate and follow basic English then they shouldn't be working with customers and doing orders. I appreciate the manager staying calm with me and wanting to make things right which is why I'm giving any stars at all. Hiring staff should mean that they have desirable skills and can do the job, even if they are new. I understand giving chances but at what cost when orders get so screwed up. Thanks for the refund. Hopefully you guys do better in the future so I can change this low...
Read moreFood excellent...as always!! Service excellent...as always. 4 piece platter with onion rings and mashed with gravy and chicken sandwich with onion rings. Good onion rings. Still crispy even on arrival at home. Nice seasoning with a slight burn in the back of the mouth. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the gravy was hot and delicious. AWESOME chicken pieces and sandwich, in fact the best chicken sandwich in town.
STORY TIME: My wife had ordered online for this order. When I arrived at the restaurant they asked for my order number. Of course, I didn't have it, since my wife did the ordering. I texted my wife for the number. At the same time the manager came and asked me to give me the name of pickup. Fortunately, my lady had put my name in, so when I told the manager, he confirmed it and gave me our order. What was interesting, and a bit sad, was that the manager apologized. Then the employee who initially served me apologized. And then the employee who brought me the order apologized. The whole order number thing was on ME, not them. I am so sorry that the team at the Regent restaurant feels they have to apologize when the patron is in the wrong. I will never be THAT customer to your...
