The last time I saw Robin's Donuts was back in 1987, when I was graduating high school. We were the best of friends: she made the best coffee and lemon-filled powdered doughnuts, and we had great conversations. Just recently, I saw her for the first time in decades. She had it rough: a little weatherbeaten on the inside and outside. She lost touch with friends and acquaintances, and became very lonely. Sometimes, she imbibed and lost herself to madness. But no matter how rough the going got, Robin pulled herself together and continued serving the best walnut crunches and Robin's Eggs. In our recent conversation, she said the popularity of her arch-rival, Tim Horton, really got her down. But, in the end, she didn't care about fame and fortune. She just wanted to keep on serving reasonably-priced coffee, doughnuts, and soup and sandwiches. She went to rehab and got herself together. Read moreYeah, it's a pretty nice little coffee shop/donut place, they got free wifi (woot) and I went in the other day and bought a donut for the right to sit down lol, watched some YT videos while I was there, and I was there for quite a while actually when I guess one of the staff got all fed up with me being there and was like "excuse me this is five minute waiting area only" which I mean lol it had been well past five minutes, surely an hour or two, but I didn't really mind, just went and sat outside round the corner on the pavement and kept watching (hehe) so not really a problem if you're just looking for wifi as long as it's not cold or rainy out. As far as the donut went, tbh there was like barely any custard inside my boston cream and I was actually a bit bummed about that, kinda lame when they're...
Read moreGreat for morning coffe pickups. Not too grand or obligatory in the classic robins donuts infact i wouldnt reccomend most of the donuts here unless i was feeling blessed, lucky or lit but they make good morning brekwiches and the nanaimo bar is pretty alright imo. Unlike the old owner (and i could be wrong) he dosent seem to give away his unbought donuts to those passing by with generosity but there is a touch of decency in the owner. Enough so that i come by on occasion. Overal an okay establishment. Not one id reccomend getting too comfortable in unless you were diwn and out or feeling...
