I ordered sushi tonight and decided to give this place a try. I made a huge mistake. I'll start with the chicken roll. If you're a child and you like chicken fingers this is your roll. They don't offer a chicken teriyaki which is one of my defaults so I gave this a shot. All bread, deep fried highly processed chicken, the no name brand chicken fingers you buy because you can't afford anything else. I've made better rolls than this at home. The same goes for the second roll. I got the calamari roll. I broke apart the pounds of breading within the roll to find a small piece of what I assume was squid. Tasteless. Just breading. The spicy half dynamite was a different story. I figured if I were absolutely hammered after a night karaoke and could choose between standing in two different lines, one where I would be offered a stale Big Mac and the other a spicy half dynamite roll I'd probably stick with sushi(who am I kidding, I haven't had fast food in years but a stale Big Mac would crush this) but that's not saying much. Wallet friendly? Sure Made with rice? I believe so Sushi? Technically I guess. Worth eating? Absolutely not. I've been to many places across the city. Go anywhere else and you'll...
Read moreThis place is hidden at the corner of Charles and Selkirk diagonal from the Charles Grocery. I was not expecting what I found here. This is one of the best sushi spots I have found in the city. I have been to quite a few in the city (reviews to come) but this is by far the best I have had.
Price for lunch is less than a combo at a fast food franchise. $7.99 from 11am-2 pm. Other combos are very well priced also.
The proportion of filling to rice is just right. Not skimpy on the inside of the rolls and a thin layer of rice on the seaweed. They are quick to get your food out. Seating is limited 6 tables only. Wait for take out is approximately 15-20 minutes. I hope they join skip the dishes, I would be ordering more often.
Downfall is the decor. It's cute but that gets old fast. Eclectic but more tables would fit if stuff was switched up a bit. Other than that and it's less than desirable neighborhood, it's fantastic. Owner is very nice...
Read moreThe location is unassuming, the decor is lacklustre, but the food is perfect. We've ordered from Gangnam Sushi multiple times (via Skip the Dishes) and have NEVER been disappointed. We weren't disappointed when we visited the actual restaurant. My boyfriend loves the sushi pizza and the bulgogi box. I've tried a few more things than that. The tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) is great - best when it's hot, and meant to share. It's a bit of a struggle to finish alone. The japchae is the best I've had in this city. The bibimbap is perfect. The gamjatang (spicy pork bone soup) is, in fact, spicy. It packs a punch that lasts and it's also perfect. The kalbi is amazing.
We'll likely keep ordering from Gangnam Sushi, even if we can't get to the...
