I love fresh baked goods, and on one of my first outings since lockdown I had coffee with an old friend. He told me he had encountered this bakery on Wall street and it had the best croissants he had ever tasted. Now, my friend is not immune to hyperbole, but he is also a world traveler so we visited the place on Friday. They are not overly large. During covid they are restricting customers to only 2 at a time and there are large shields to protect every one so its fairly comfortable and safe. While we were in there were at least 3 people who opened the door to check if they could come in but everyone politely obeyed the distancing protocols without complaint. In addition to the croissants, which are indeed among the best I have ever tasted, they have a nice range of breads and buns. I also took home a loaf of whole wheat sourdough and their sunflower sourdough. 3 croissants and the 2 loaves came to $20.00 but they were worth it. The croissants were flakey and buttery without being crumby, my wife and I warmed them up in a 150 f oven for 10 minutes and had them with fresh coffee the next morning. Devine. The bread, both loaves, are perfect examples of sourdough. Nice crust and chewy with excellent flavour. We had a couple of slices with a salad for supper and it was an excellent pairing. I cut off the odd shaped ends and cubed them to make croutons. I'm looking forward to toasting the bread for breakfast. The only negative I can think of is access. I wasn't driving and forgot to check for parking. On street parking is limited, and there is a hydrant near their door. You might want to check out maps or call them about parking, but on the plus side, the sign out front did offer curbside pickup

Between Gato Bakeshop, Eadha Bread, La Belle Baguette, French Way Cafe, and The Pennyloaf Bakery, we are spoiled for baked goods in Winnipeg. Sleepy Owl Bread also belongs on this list. Fresh flaky pastries that are just the right amount of sweet/ savory. Admittedly, we have not had a loaf yet, but everything we tried was great. Not pictured is the confit tomato and pickle pretzel croissant, which was the best of them all and did not last the ride home. The space only accommodates pick-up; however, the staff are knowledgeable and the prices are reasonable for the high quality. It is worth the drive to try Sleepy Owl Bakery if you do not live in Minto or the West End. Make sure to go early on the weekend as many of the favourites will be sold out by noon. Highly recommend as a Saturday morning treat!

Sleepy all bread is located on Aaron Street in the West End of Winnipeg. This is a wonderful local bakery, which sells a variety of freshly bread products including sourdough bread, pastries, bread crumbs, organic honey, chips, as well as fresh sandwiches. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was inviting - overall it was a great experience. They bake all of their products fresh daily, so you get handmade, freshly baked goods!. There is free street parking available. I definitely recommend stopping by and checking out this place. It’s always a pleasure supporting high quality local businesses!. Two thumbs up.
