Was invited for an evening with the best pizzas my friend had ever tasted in Winnipeg, and oh yes, there was beer too. That proved pretty accurate, the pizza are 1 size, medium I would guess (certainly more than 1 person should eat) and are really good. Priced between $14.00 & $17.00 each they are hand made and brought to your table nice and hot. Selection includes basic cheese right up to fancy multi meat versions with a couple of odd balls thrown in. The perogy pizza was really very good, using cheesy potato perogy filling instead of tomato sauce and topped with onions, bacon, etc and sour cream. There is also one with a butternut squash curry paste as a base, instead of tomatoes. That's on the list to try next time. My friends and I ordered about 6 different kinds and were happy with all of them. The best I've ever tasted in Winnipeg ?? They are pretty good, but I'd have to do more research before I sign off on that.
As for the beer, they have 16 varieties on tap, sold in 3 different sized glasses, the smallest being 5 oz.(metrify that yourself but I think it's about 300 ml). Seasonal variation means the selection changes a bit.
Selection is a nice balance, a couple of American styles for those who want flavoured water, a blueberry and a grapefruit variation for those into fruit based drinks, and several dark chewy stout styles for those of us who like real beer. The Chez dark was my favorite, although the others were very nice. A Belgian table beer, the colour of apple juice but a bit cloudy, was surprisingly nice. Their tasting notes said banana overtones but I didn't get that, I did get a citrus taste that was between grapefruit and lemon. While I don't think it goes well with pizza, I think it would be fabulous on a hot Saturday afternoon after mowing the lawn.
Equiped with long picnic style tables, the place is not fancy, but there are no TVs, and there is live music. The acoustics mean the place is pretty loud, but you can carry on a conversation.
All in all, I spent $12.00 on beer, and $17.00 on pizza and enjoyed the evening. I will go back to try the other pizzas, maybe on the way home from work some day. There is a #78 bus stop almost at the front door so I don't even have to worry about driving or...
Read moreWe had booked the FUNCTION ROOM at Trans Canada Brewery for a Rehearsal Dinner. The entire TCB team was helpful, accommodating, and easy to work with. I had stopped in on a whim, to see if I could view the function room. I was given a tour, and a brochure outlining some of the options. We booked a date and time, and Ethan (the Event Coordinator) provided us with all the information we needed. While we had a pretty good idea what we wanted to order (starters, salads, pizza, and churros) Ethan assisted with determining appropriate quantities, as well as setting a schedule for when each wave of food would be brought.
We were able to bring in some decorations, and when I showed up with multiple boxes and bins, several TCB team members helped me carry them up the stairs to the function room. A few different team members stopped in while I was decorating and offered a bit of assistance.
The night of the event, the rehearsal ran late, so I called to push the food schedule back. TCB was very understanding and accomodating of this. All the food was incredible - the artichoke dip was a hit, people commented on the salads, and the variety of gourmet pizzas meant there was something to please everyone. The churros were also a hit.
The Function Room was the perfect size for our group of 32. There were washrooms located right across from the room, that were only used by our group. The only negative about the space is that we had to take the stairs (no elevator (This was not an issue for our group, but it could be a challenge for someone with mobility concerns). Since we were there later in the evening, some of our group were even able to take a tour of the brewery, which they enjoyed. (This is not a guaranteed opportunity, but if you book the room, it does not hurt to ask). While there are a variety of beverage options on tap, there is also a good selection of non-alcoholic beverages available, including 0% and Jarritos.
Thanks to Ethan, Braedon, Liam, Emma and the rest of the team (including the kitchen staff), for making the rehearsal dinner at TCB a...
Read moreWe came here with a group of friends to get some beer flights and food. We ordered pizzas and tacos. The pizzas were delicious and I would definitely recommend trying them out! The tacos were alottle pricey for what they were but they were delicious and homemade. Where they lost their 2 stars was service. When we got our food the staff member asked if we wanted parm and chili flakes. We said yes, and watched the employee go chat up another customer. He dragged his feet the entire time and looked like he didn't want to be there. After we waited for about 5 minutes we started eating. Half way through our pizza, we saw an employee walking around and a member of our table got up and asked for the parm/chili flakes. The orginal employee who asked us about the parm and chili flakes was never to be seen again. ( we sat patio.) Then my husband wanted a TCB glass and some beers. We went to the store where there was an employee putting some stuff away, didn't ask if we needed anything etc. Which is fine because we knew what we wanted. As we collected our glasses, and beers we went to the counter to pay and there was no one around. We waited for a few minutes and decided that we're were done for the night. We went and put everything back, and I don't think we will be returning in the future. Great beer/food but the service...
