Have been to sushi hon a number of times, food is consistently good, service is almost always 5 star, however our most recent visit was a disappointment. Arrived just before 5:30 and were sat right away. Restaurant was fairly busy, with only a few open tables. Waited 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. Server finally came and took our order. We ordered shrimp tempura (delicious) and a handful of rolls (good, but not excellent as in previous visits). Our daughter isn’t a fan of sushi, but loves gyoza & edamame, and we asked that they be brought out at the same time as the sushi. Half an hour later the shrimp tempura came out, followed almost immediately by the gyoza & edamame for our daughter. We figured the rolls would be following very soon after. Nope. More than half an hour later we finally had to ask about our rolls, as tables that were sat after we ordered were receiving their food. The server (not sure what her name is, but she is always very sweet) checked and then went to the front without communicating with us what was going on. Turns out she was getting us complimentary soup, which we appreciated, but refused as none of us like miso soup. She was very apologetic and said the rolls would be coming out right away. She said that our order was entered at 6:03, even though we’re ordered close to 5:45 (not sure why it took the server 15+ minutes to enter our order). The food did finally come (after being at our table for approximately 1hr and 15 minutes), and was just ok, not the delicious rolls we have had numerous times before. I understand restaurants are busy on a Friday evening, but it was very frustrating to see order after order after order come out to the front for takeout/delivery, while customers in the restaurant waited and waited and waited (we weren’t the only table who had to wait a very long time for their food). The servers were all so focussed on takeout orders that the customers in the restaurant were neglected. Pumping out takeout order after takeout order while dine in customers wait excessively long for their food seems wrong to me. We will return, but probably not on a weekend, if we have a sushi craving on the weekend we will order takeout, as that seems to be...
Read moreCame here to have dinner with family today. The staff were very friendly and courteous. I had no complaints whatsoever and the food was amazing however, I’ve had better sushi at other places so it’ll be tough to get a 5 star rating. Sushi is one of those things that is not an easy food to rate because you have to be exceptional when it comes to sushi prep and there’s a lot of bias opinions when it comes to sushi in my opinion.
Having that said, the staff here were super friendly and helped and explained all the questions we had. We were curious about the Japanese Sling on their drink menu and when we asked about it, they were able to answer all our questions and we ended up order 4! Their customer service was exceptional - definitely over the top.
Their food was amazing. My favourite was actually the Chicken Katsu. My favourite roll was the Tempura Crab Roll. Their pork gyoza’s were not bad - they definitely weren’t the best I’ve had. They were moist on the inside and well made on the outside but I felt like there was something missing. Their shrimp tempura were also amazing and their sauce complimented it very well. I wasn’t too sure about the Teriyaki Beef Roll - it was definitely an impulse buy - I don’t think meat mixes well with sushi however, I have had Japanese A5 Wagyu on sushi before in Toronto and it was exceptional - a loss for words so I probably wouldn’t order the Teriyaki Beef rolls here again.
I would definitely go back and try a few other things. Although we did order a variety of things, there are still a lot of things on the menu.
We also noticed that this place actually had a 12% tip option which we thought was very generous as a lot of places now started gouging you with their minimum tip option at 18% going up to 25% at some places. That’s is a very thoughtful gesture and makes the customers happy to know that they’re not trying to rob us. If more places had lower tip options, customers in my opinion would likely want to tip more.
Definitely visit these guys and make sure you order a Japanese Sling if you haven’t already. They’re amazing! Thank your guys for the exceptional service while...
Read moreSushi hon, a really good place for japanese food. A lot of options and really good quality. Recently, visited this place. Tried a bunch of different things from their menu. Started with Chicken katsu, really good rich and crispy taste with complimenting teriyaki sauce. Chicken cooked to perfection. Followed by takoyaki, which I thought was ok, though since I have never tasted original takoyaki before can't be sure whether it was just not suited to my taste bud. Then, we had variety of Nigiri, Includes Tamago, Sake Toro (Fatty Salmon) and Pink Tuna, the tamago felt ok, but both the fish varieties were exceptional. Fish was really fresh and melted in my mouth. Lastly, we had dynamite roll and sexy salmon roll. Dynamite roll was really good, as for the sexy Salmon it was good as well, but spicy sweet not my taste on a personal note. All in all their variety of food was really exception but that was not affecting their quality of food, which is even more praise-worthy. Lastly, ended my night by having Mango mochi, loved the mochi only suggestion. I think chocolate doesn't go well with Mango mochi. All in all, worth visiting back to back place, since the menu is quite large. As for service and atmosphere was good nothing exceptional but nothing to complain as well. A really good...
