I was very excited for a Vietnamese restaurant to open up very close to home, I love Vietnamese cuisine as its arguably my favorite, it may be basic as well but Pho is probably one of my all time favorite dishes and I've had it at many different places. I've been wanting to go here for a little while now since they opened recently. Sad to say I'm a disappointed. My glaring issue to my visit was my wait time to get the food, I'm usually okay to wait and have waiting long for food before but this one was the first time I've ever had to come up and ask where my food is cause it was just taking way to long (40-50 min), it was only me and my brother so we didn't order lots, ordered spring rolls to share, pho for me and egg noodle stir fry for him. the spring rolls came relatively quickly and the waitress even came by to let us know that they where out of meatballs for the pho, which I was okay with. after the 40-50 minute wait for our food I only really got fed up when 4 tables where served before us and they where seated after us, (2 groups of 4 and 2 groups of 2), so I finally got up and asked about our food the waitress was apologetic, but what if I hadn't said anything? the food came out quickly after I had said something, they weren't busy when we got there but got bit busy after, but come on 4 tables that where seated after me where served first, I was also sitting right beside the kitchen so they definitely saw me with a plate of bean sprouts untouched and just waiting there, just very disappointing to say the least. In fear of another long wait I had also ordered vermicelli for take out for my mom which came out at a reasonable time. now that we got our food id say it was okay, the spring rolls where just as good as anywhere else, my brother liked his stir fry, onto my pho though, I've had better but I've also had worse they did give me extra meat for having no meatballs and the wait, I've had tough and chewy beef before but here it was soft and tender which was very nice.
I will try come back again as I love Vietnamese food, it being close to home, easy to park at, and has a nice interior. Just please I do not want to wait...
Read moreWe tried out the new Watt Bistro Pho at the corner of Regent and Plessis, where the old Sal's used to be. Whatever occupied the space between Sal's and now was gutted, and the restaurant is really pretty.
Staff were friendly, but once the food came, they disappeared, never to return.
My lovely wife ordered the spring roll vermicelli bowl, and I ordered the deluxe Pho, and an order of spring rolls.
First, her entre came out a good.ten minutes before mine did.....annoying but not a showstopper.
Second, the spring rolls were weird.....they were nice and crispy on the outside, but wet and unpleasantly pasty on the inside.
Third, my pho was disappointing on all counts. The broth was bland and watery. It desperately needed some salt, lemon juice, and I think it was just plain watered down. Next, any deluxe Pho I've ever had has had beef slices of different kinds, beef balls (yummy little meatballs), tripe, and occasionally some tendon. This one had ONLY slices of beef. When I asked if I actually got a deluxe, or mistakenly got just plain beef slices, the manager told me they were out of ingredients, but someone "should have told you". Well, they didn't.
The fourth and last issue was that we believe that "pasty" spring roll filling might have been RAW filling, as my wife became VERY sick within an hour or so of eating. My stomach, too, was "off", but she definitely got the worst of it.
So, food poisoning on our first visit makes it...
Read moreplaced an order last night Jan 13 2024. I was quoted 45 mins. I was coming from work... very reasonable. When I got there I could see they were busy. I was told "order not done yet...it will be another 15 minutes"
I ordered 3 items: peanut satay beef noodle soup, deluxe steam rice dish, and spring rolls. I checked in again after 17ish mins or so "we are making 1 more dish" I'll be completely honest. At this point I'm annoyed already. I asked the person if it normally takes over an hour to make 3 dishes? He replied "no not normally"
After that another customer came in asking for his order and was quoted "15 mins" I turned to him and informed him that it was a lie....I was quoted 15 mins 20 mins ago. I don't mind waiting if I'm given the CORRECT time negotiated.
Once I got my order the person tried to give me a free item. I told him I didn't want the free item. I only wanted what was ordered. I don't know if he heard me or was trying to butter me up but he tied the bag and said one more time "I gave you a free item" out of my frustration I tore the bag open and asked to remove th free item.
Instead of trying to give free items to customers (which took more time to do instead of trying to complete orders and took more time to complete orders) just give more realistic wait times.
If you like Vietnamese food that takes a long time this is the...
