I read and reread many of the reviews trying to figure out if we were being too harsh. But I have to be honest if I'm going to be of any benefit to anyone. This restaurant is dated but dated as in past prime and worn looking rather than dirty. It was clean. The bathroom is in a very awkward place whereby it's a small room within the dining area itself and yes, if you happen to be seated across from it, it's not the most pleasant. The bench seating was roomy, which is nice considering many are too tight fitting with narrow tables. The waitress was pleasant enough but seemed a tad bit rushed although it wasn't busy at all, perhaps four other tables with customers. The food came promptly and it was hot but that's where the real disappointment began. The Harvest Moon burger, certainly was impressive at first sight, loaded high with lettuce, generous tomato, cheese and onions and a thick burger. It came with a packet of mayo, mustard and relish. Slathering all that on, plus ketchup still did not give it any flavour. There was no flavour. None. It was bland. The beef patty itself had no seasoning - or none that could be tasted. Even the sautéed onions were actually tasteless. The french fries were golden and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside - perfect, however they came salted which wasn't good because it was too much salt. I've never had fries come salted (other than some fast food). Salt should always be left up to the customer. The coleslaw was dry. Not just lacking dressing, but actually dry which made it unpalatable. An oil/vinegar dressing is usually a safe bet with slaw, not expensive and not difficult. I'm just not sure if their spice cabinet was empty? Regardless, it was a one of visit as we went to this area solely to visit the Farmer's Market. Perhaps other menu items would prove to be...
Read moreThis was by far one of the worst meals that I have had in a restaurant. I would believe by the number of people that were in the dining room that their food was exceptional. Nope.
We ordered what the server suggested, which was the "specialty of the house" chicken souvlaki and pork souvlaki. The dinners came on an overcrowded plate with everything mashed together. The rice was mushy and tasted like wallpaper paste. Salad was wilted and I cannot describe the dressing, was there any?? My pork souvlaki was charred on the outside and pink and chewy on the inside. The chicken souvlaki was also undercooked and dry. I had to ask for side plates so that we could unravel the food "groups" on our plates.
Our dear elderly parents ordered turkey dinners that were equally as disgusting. I have never seen stuffing that looked like the stuff that they served, I'll spare you my initial description. I think the turkey was the frozen boxed stuff, hardly acceptable from a restaurant. To top off the experience, the cranberry sauce was "served" in a little plastic package. It really doesn't take much more effort to properly present the food in an appetizing manner.
I was very disappointed the this highly rated family restaurant has obviously lost their way and do not care what and how they serve their advertised good food. The sweet waitress was the only good part of this restaurant. Since she was doing her best we cannot fault her and she is the only reason for any stars on this review.
I think that there is a loyalty for this place but their patrons deserve to experience more effort from the kitchen / management and to learn some basics in food preparation and presentation.
I would not recommend this place until they have...
Read moreMy partner and I and another couple had tickets to the theatre matinee and decided to go early and have lunch. I looked up restaurants but should have read all the reviews not just the five star. Had I read the single star reviews I would not have chosen this restaurant. First the food presentation and taste was very good, however the waitress was very rude and spoiled our entire experience. We arrived and were seated immediately and sat for some time. Another waitress came and welcomed us and informed us our waitress would be with us shortly. Then we waited another 10 min and the same waitress came back again apologizing and told us she would speak to our waitress and have her come to our table. Shortly afterwards our waitress arrived at the table, did not greet us and abruptly asked "what do you want?" Not a great start. We told her we'd prefer two bills , one for each couple and let her know who was with whom. She took our orders accordingly for each couple. One of us ordered a breakfast which arrived cold and had to be returned. My soup came with croutons despite the fact I told her when ordering, no croutons as I am gluten free, so that was returned. When the bills arrived they were wrong. She changed them and the second time they were wrong. I told her to take the soups and switch them on the bills. The third time they were still wrong and by this time she would not come to our table. I paid for the entire bill just to get out of there so we wouldn't be late to the theatre. Sadly none of us had ever been to this restaurant and chances are we will...
