Relive the Age of Steam with Engine Number 9, going down St. Jacob's line. My 8 year old son and I had a good time riding on the coaches pulled by the steam train. It's amazing to see the huge iron horse puffing and hear the wheels chugging along. Part of the experience is the Run Past, where you get off the train in the middle of a field--safely behind a roped off area. Then the train backs up a bit, then comes charging back towards you. It's a neat opportunity to see and photograph the train in action. (You can't really see the engine from inside the coach cars). The volunteers and crew make the experience truly worth-while as you can have the opportunity to ask them all kinds of questions and hear some neat stories. I would have liked to hear a narration during the train ride about the history of the engine but I was glad that my son and I spoke to some of the volunteers after the ride.

What an experience, everybody that worked there from the conductor to all the actors and actresses and everyone else that make this whole experience possible are fantastic! As soon as we boarded the train we got into the spirit of things with singing and just the general visuals of the train and how it’s decorated made me feel like I was on the actual polar express train, we had Santa and his elves come on board and my daughter was so happy to see him just an overall wonderful experience made possible by a great crew of people. Candy cane was wonderful and the girl who had lost her voice but still continued on was an absolute trooper.Thank you so much for the memories and a great time definitely recommend for everyone!

Had a wonderful time with my Niece and my 8yr old great Nephews. She had been wanting to do something special this year with the boys, so I suggested this surprise combined with a visit to the St. Jacobs Farmer's Market and they really enjoyed themselves. A little pricey but worth experiencing at least once. The train bounced from side to side a lot on the tracks but the staff kept us adults and primarily the children entertained with songs and of course a special visit from Mrs. Claus and the jolly old Elf himself. Nice trip through the country side with people taking pictures from their back yards as we passed and people waving at us from their cars.

Plan for an awesome adventure if go on the first Saturday in April during the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.

First, book your train ticket - I recommend noon departure.

Arrive early (9:30 - 10 am is suggested) at the St. Jacobs Market and get your Apple Fritter and coffee to start the day. Wander the market inside and out and pick up fruits, vegetables, trinkets and great meats and prepared food to take home. Treat yourself to some flowers while you are at it! Take everything back to your car.

Walk a few hundred meters to the train station. Get your camera ready to capture the train coming into the station. Sit back and enjoy life in a simpler time and at a slower pace.

Hop onto the tractor ride to the hot spot of Elmira and take in all the festivities. We love the farm animals and enjoy talking to real farmers to learn about raising animals. Marvel at the giant combine harvesters which cost more than a house (snap a shot of yourself sitting inside one of the wheels - that's how big they are).

Enjoy all the street food, smoked turkey leg, perogies, corn on the cob, sausage on a bun, etc. Mini Cheesecakes were the winner this year. Enjoy all the baked goods and try not to bust a gut.

Grab a pancake Breakfast and a bus ride out to the maple syrup farm if you can fit it all in.

By 3:30, you will need to head back for the last train of the day to return to St. Jacobs where your car will sit silently in wait in an almost empty parking lot.

I hope you had a chance to talk to all the train volunteers and hear about their life on the rails. You will have memories to last a lifetime.

Soon, they will be operating the good old fashioned Harry Potter Steam Train and I hope to be chugging along on this magical...

This is my 8th Santa Train Ride and it’s an annual tradition with my son and I. But over our years of going, the theme changed from re-enacting the Polar Express storyline,to a much more jumbled and lesser quality Christmas themed train ride. This experience is a far shine from the Polar Express train ride. There used to be a covered area, for waiting where a train engine was placed and decorated, for photos while you waited.Christmas music playing. It was so lovely. Now you stand outside on the “platform” with the porto- potties and wait. Our train was a half hour late, thereby pushing the subsequent trains a half hour back and a lot of cold/impatient children and parents. Our host was using a hands free mic that wasnt working for the first bit of the train and no one could hear her when she’d walk up to the other train car. At one point in time, children would get hot chocolate; a commemorative key chain; a silver bell and a commemorative ticket. Now we were given a paper cup;one satchel of packaged hot chocolate and a packaged cookie. I am a health care professional and my work has had to rise and overcome the pandemic challenges,so I don’t have much leniency for a likely “pandemic” justification as to why this is now the standard practice/gift children get. And like some things, price at an all time and service/experience at an...

We went to the wizard festival and the prisoner escape train ride. It was so fun! My kids loved the train ride, especially the trivia. For an adult it was a little cheese, but the kids said it was the best day ever. The people who put this festival on do a really good job especially if they are local highschool students (which I heard from a previous review). The vendors were great, all hand crafted items that my kids really loved. The preshow was entertaining for not only the kids but adults. I was skeptical after reading negative reviews about these events so I want people to know it is fun!! A little confusion on where to go for preshow, but we also didn't read our map. Food options were very limited, but good for the size of the event. Sadly we have allergies so we were not able to eat there. If you're a Potter fan or kids are then definitely check out this event. The past reviews are a shame because there is a day full of fun here and it is very entertaining for kids. Thanks to everyone that out this on! Oh and the steam engine is so amazing!!! Incredible to just see it run let alone go on a ride. Can tell the love and sweat that had...
