Excellent bakery making a delicious bread and sweets all cooked my mennonite ladies in a kitchen you can see when you order your food. I popped in on a Friday afternoon around 2pm and was surprised how busy it was. There were about 6 people ahead of me in line and it took about 15 minutes to be served because while there was 2 staff there was only 1 registar and the same staff got drinks and worked the register while the second person got food from the glass counter.
That said the food was worth the wait. The apple fritter I ordered was huge and had giant pieces of apples in it. (Note they are different from the fritters at the market which are mostly apples, these are more doughnut like with much more dough but delicious with chunks of apple and a sweet icing.
The standout for me was "Tea Ball" which is basically a sour cream glazed timbit the size of my fist, but it was soft and deliciou and had a wonderful orange glaze over it. They are also quite cheap and filling so i definitely recommend.
I also bought a small veggie bread tearaway which was a bit lacking in flavour but you could taste the freshness of the bread so it was still a win. I then sampled a Millionaire Shortbread from Winnie's gluten free bakery. The chocolate and caramel were excellent. The shortbread was good for gluten free but not worth it if you have gluten as an option.
I revisited a year later. A had the local traditional Long John and a vegan "Passion Flakie". Both used a vegan "cream" for filling. On the Passion Flakie it worked and the bright raspberry filling had so much zing! The whole thing was very nostalgic and one of the few vegan desserts that tasted better than the original. The long john had very tasty dough but without something else to balance it the vegan cream was dull and uninspiring. It would have been better to use the real thing in this case, especially since the rest of the long john...
Read moreI went to this bakery on May 5th at around 4-ish pm. I was very excited as we were trying this place for the first time but the girl at the front was so so rude. It felt like she was doing a big favor or something. We tried apple pie, lemon squares, Nanaimo bar. We asked for apple pie squares. There was 1 piece and the other one was a half. So she said I only have 1 and a half piece left and we were like ok good we will take that. Guess what... she billed us for full 2 pieces and then I when I told her, she just looked at me with a smirk and didn't care to explain. I had my parents visiting and a tiny baby so I didn't have the bandwidth to argue so I just took it. But when I came home, I honestly felt like she cheated us. Even though it was a very small amount, still I felt like cheating was not ok. She could have told us that we consider this as 2 pieces but at first she said it's only 1 and a half and charged us for 2. I an very disappointed and sad by this behavior. Also we asked her to heat our apple pie, she took the plate from us and gave it back to us in 10 seconds without actually heating it so we had to eat it cold. I hope you hire someone who is more friendly, hardworking and who doesn't...
Read moreThis bakery has a lot of freshly baked goods. I came here with some friends to buy some apple fritters. When my turn came to buy some I was told by the employee in the Order area that there is only one left. I asked her if she could check the kitchen if they have some more. The kitchen is just behind her, just a few steps away but without even bothering to move she just said they don't have any left. I tried to order other items like two dutch apple squares, one cinammon teaball and the remaining one piece of apple fritter but then I saw another employee coming out of the kitchen with a tray of what seem to look like apple fritters. I asked the employee getting my orders if they are indeed apple fritters to which she confirmed and asked if I want to change my order. I did not change my order but added three more apple fritters. I mentioned this incident to the cashier and another employee in the Payment area but they just smiled without even an apology. This bakery has poor customer service. The cinammon teaball is good, the dutch apple squares too sweet and the apple fritters is not even that great, I have...
