We were recommended “Those Pizza Guys” by a friend and neighbour a while back. On Saturday we decided to go to St. Jacobs and stop in at The Pizza Guys for a bite and a drink…. Not only did we stop in but we stayed for a few hours! It’s located on a nice quiet side street off the main drag of downtown St. Jacobs. We sat outside at a large table with comfortable chairs under a massive tree that gave us shade… We went in to order some pizzas and beers.. They have a wide selection of craft beers from local and not so local craft breweries. The beer was great and a great accompaniment to the pizzas that I’m about to rave about! We ordered 3 pizzas for the 2 of us knowing we would bring some home… The first was Pep in your Step (Pepperoni pizza) The second was Sunny in St. Jacobs (Veg pizza with Arugula on top) and third one was a special pizza that day. It had a Mexican theme with local corn and jalapeños and other delicious toppings that I can’t remember what they were. :) The pizzas were literally AMAZING! The wood fired crust was the best I have ever had!! So light and airy with a delicious flavour and so lightly charred… The pizza crust is the “foundation” of a great pizza and these were 3 great pizzas.. I immediately texted our friend that recommended Those Pizza Guys to us and said to her “Best Crust Ever! So light” The owner and Pizzaiolo (Pete) came out to see how the pizzas were and I told him the same. He explained the unique process that gives the crusts the amazing taste and lightness. If you want to try the most amazing pizza then stop in at Those Pizza Guys next time you are in St. Jacobs OR do as we did and just drive to the restaurant and enjoy the food, drink and atmosphere for a few...
Read moreThose pizza guys in the heart of St. Jacobs is a wood fired oven kind of pizza place. The dough is tender but holds together well. They use good quality ingredients and make a pizza that you can get a little of each topping in each bite.
We had the Marg: tomato sauce, mozzarella, fiore di latte and fresh basil. We asked for arugula on top and they gladly provided some. All the ingredients were good quality.
We also had the featured pizza which on this day was called Mortadella Madness, which is pesto, mozzarella, fiore di latte, mortadella, onion, green olives, fresh parm and pistachios. All of the ingredients played well with the others. My only critique would be that it was a little bit salty because of all the different salty ingredients. It was delicious and the crust had just a little bit of char on some pieces. Char is flavour.
We actually chose to eat in at the restaurant. It’s very tiny, but very homey feeling. Lots of cookbooks about Italian ingredients and photographs of the area that they are located. It was my first time there, and I will definitely go back at some point...
Read moreI wanted to try this place for a while, and when I was in St Jacobs this past Sunday I saw they were open while passing by. I got a three topping pizza which came out to a little over $18. The pizza was smaller than I imagined it would be, maybe something in between a small and medium. I didn't see a whole lot of toppings either and there were some slices with only a single pepperoni, but there were other sections with a lot more. So it could have been better distributed. Taste wise, it was okay, but I wasn't totally blown away. The quality is above your typical pizzeria, but not by a lot. Given the price and size of what you get, I don't see much reason to return, as I can get a decent three topping large pizza for less at other places. I will say though, the person working there was extremely friendly and even brought the pizza to me while I was...
