I have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant in HK for 20 years .. when I visit HK , either for business or Pleasure .. I stay about 2 to 8 weeks and after about 2 weeks, I'm just dying for some Mexican food. I'm from California, and we're totally spoiled because we got so many choices for great mexican food. I found a place near Central, but it just sounded to touristy and for expats, so I decided to go to this out of the way place in Cyberport, near Kennedy Town and 58 bus away. Well, Cyperport is an amazing Mall for "Startups and New company incubation" as I just found out through Google. So, I'm sure it has an international customer base. On a Saturday, its very quiet. It took me about 90 minutes to get there from Shatin, but it was well worth the travel. The Food was EXCELLENT ! I had my regular of 3 soft tacos with Pork meat or Carnitas .. Guacamole and Chips .. and a Nice Mexican Beer "Bohemia" ... Everything was Spot On and great tasting. There was so much food, but I ate it all , as it was so good. Although I was by myself, the place was full with families .. and they all look like regulars and they all looked like they were enjoying their food. I was going to ask the owners to take a picture with me, so I can put on my Instagram .. but they were too busy. I'll be back for sure. I took pictures, but can't locate them now...
Read moreI really want to like this restaurant. It's owned by the same Irish guys who own Delaney's, and being an Irish guy myself, I like Delaney's and I'm happy to see other Irish people running businesses in Hong Kong.
The decor is good, the restaurant has a lot of child-friendly activities, and the service is excellent.
The problem is the food and price point. I ordered the chicken burrito and margarita.
The burrito was not a burrito. It consisted of incredibly salty chicken in a wrap, covered in tomato sauce and melted cheese. No rice or beans or vegetables or guacamole. Also, it couldn't be picked up. I don't understand what food I received, but it wasn't a burrito.
The margarita wasn't freshly made, but was from a machine...
This all cost $284...!
As I said, I really want to like this place, but there will be no repeat...
Read moreEl Charro is located inside the mall. It seemed like an easy choice for a Mexican meal, but I ended up regretting it.
I ordered a chicken dish with still water. The water, served with ice, was fine, but the meal itself lacked any real flavor, which is surprising for Mexican cuisine. The chicken quesadillas were dry, not spicy, and clearly not marinated. The tortilla didn't taste very fresh, but the real issue was the cheese, it was genuinely unpleasant.
For 18$ (US money) better to go to another place in...
