Not really sure why there is a difference in the English translation of the business’s name, but this is a branch of the more famous Kai Kai Desert outlet in Jordan, the difference being this one Kai Kai (second sister) Dessert is located in the quiet working class suburb of To Kwa Wan. As a result, it is much quieter and getting a table and being served quickly is not a problem.
The sweet black sesame soup and the sweet almond soup (or almond tea as it is called in other places) are tops on my list. Both are rich in flavour without being overpoweringly sweet. Texture here was great. Some places make the black sesame soup too thick, taking on a gluggy appearance that results in a less than ideal mouth feel. The almond soup had a slightly lighter texture but great consistency. Perfectly fragrant, eaten cold it went down quickly, leaving me craving for more! We also tried the sweet green bean soup which tasted exactly as it should with a hint of common rue (chou cho). The texture of the green bean soup was perfect as well, not thick nor watery. Let’s not forget the sweet red bean soup. We tried that with the (black sesame filled) tong yuan. Simply delicious and delightful for the “tong sui” lovers.
What can I say? I am a repeat diner, multiple times! My goto routine is to have the black sesame soup (I really find it hard to go past that as it is a personal favourite) hot on premises, and order an almond soup cold for take-away to be consumed later in the evening after storing in the fridge for a further hour or two. Perfect after walking for hours on...
Read moreThey serve traditional Cantonese desserts, hot and cold variety...black sesame soup, walnut soup, almond soup, steamed egg custard, glutinous rice balls in ginger soup (a signature dish), etc.
Everything is very reasonably priced and is made from old recipes and basic ingredients. The taste is just like when i was a kid. The sweetness is just right. The shop owner is also very nice.
I am glad that more tarditional variety is served here since many popular dessert stores now focus on taiwanese pearls type mix (撈) that contains a lot of sugar syrup and are sugar bombs.
The shop stays open until 12am (that's midnight) for those...

It has the perfect amount of sweetness to it. The black sesame soup mixed with almond soup and walnut soup were both very delicious. I will come back to try more combinations of...
